The 7th edition of the Soirée des dirigeants, organised by the Grandes Écoles alumni network in Singapore, brought together more than 100 alumni and business leaders on the campus.

This annual gathering celebrates the excellence of the French higher education system and the role of its alumni in promoting France’s influence internationally.

As France and Singapore continue to deepen their partnership, Grandes Écoles alumni contribute through their careers and engagement to strengthening economic, educational, scientific and cultural ties between our two countries.

Thank you to INSEAD for hosting us, and to Emmanuel White and the Grandes Écoles alumni network in Singapore for organising this evening of meaningful exchanges.

🇪🇺Did you know that the European Union has just launched a groundbreaking maritime port strategy, positioning its ports as key enablers of green growth and global trade?

With 3.4 billion tons of goods passing through its ports annually, representing 74% of the EU’s external trade, this strategy accelerates the supply of alternative fuels (hydrogen, green electricity), strengthens cybersecurity, and reduces logistics delays. 🚢

For France, the impact is even greater: as the country with the world’s second-largest Exclusive Economic Zone (11 million km2), its continental ports like 🇫🇷Marseille-Fos and 🇫🇷HAROPA but also its overseas ports are vital trade gateways, with strong connections to Singapore. For example, French shipping giant CMA CGM has operated in Singapore for 30 years, reinforcing trade links between Europe and Asia throughout the years.

🇪🇺 Did you know that Erasmus+ is not only for European students?

The Erasmus programme was created in 1987 and expanded into Erasmus+ in 2014. It supports student mobility, and more largely education, training, youth and sport, fostering skill acquisition and cultural exchanges throughout the EU… and beyond! Through the International Credit Mobility programme, Erasmus+ opens the possibility for students, researchers and staff from universities in Singapore to participate in exchanges with counterparts in Europe.

📚More than a simple scholarship programme, Erasmus+ has been a gateway to discover Europe for more than 16 million students since its inception. And over one million babies have been born from parents who met while one of them was participating in an Erasmus+ exchange! The programme is very popular in France. In 2024 alone, 180 000 Erasmus+ participants came from France, while 110,000 participants went to France. If we look at the figures for Singapore, about 600 students from Singapore come to study in France every year!

Article 42.7 is the mutual defense clause of the Treaty of the European Union.🛡️

🇫🇷 France has benefited from this in November 2015, after the Paris terrorist attacks, when it received military support, intelligence cooperation and operational burden-sharing from several EU Member States.
