🇸🇪🎻 Our folk musicians have landed in Singapore! 🇸🇬🌼
Ahead of our Midsummer Celebration, we're delighted to welcome three outstanding musicians who will be bringing the sounds of Sweden to Singapore through traditional folk music.
✨ Meet the trio:
🎻 Karin Norrfors may have a background in nuclear chemistry, but has a deep passion in Swedish folk music. A skilled violinist, Karin performs with her family ensemble, Boda Mollkapell, which performed at last year's edition.
🌲 Maria ten Wolde joins us from Dalarna, a region often considered the heartland of Swedish folk culture. She is a guitarist, violinist and music educator.
🎶 Jiaqi Li is a graduate from Singapore's Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. He has a deep interest in Nordic folk music, demonstrating how traditions can travel across borders and inspire audiences around the world.
Gather your friends and family, and get ready to dance to the soundtrack of a Swedish summer!

There'll also be a live performance by singer-songwriter Kartik Kuna — bringing the smooth sounds of Pop, R&B and Funk alongside his originals. Think Bruno Mars meets Ed Sheeran with a touch of Jason Derulo.

On Thursday, 21 May, Ambassador Anders Sjöberg visited the Singapore office of Wallenius Marine together with Amanda Alkemark, Senior Project Manager at Business Sweden Asia-Pacific.
He was welcomed by Niklas Blomqvist, Country Head, and Sam Win, Head of Ship Management. They shared insights into the company's regional operations, and the challenges affecting international shipping and oil trade routes amid current global tensions.
For generations, Swedish shipping has been closely intertwined with Singapore’s story as a global maritime and trade hub. It is a partnership built on shared openness, connectivity, and trust — values that continue to shape our relationship today.
As a reflection of Sweden’s proud maritime heritage, Ambassador Sjöberg was presented with a model ship from Wallenius Lines before concluding the visit over lunch.
Wallenius Marine is an official partner as we mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between Sweden and Singapore. We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Niklas Blomqvist and the team for their generous support!

Sweden Open 2026 brought a strong dose of sporting spirit to Our Tampines Hub on Saturday, as corporate teams gathered for a day of floorball organised by SwedCham.
The tournament was officially inaugurated by Ambassador Anders Sjöberg, who delivered a speech before blowing the whistle for the ceremonial first faceoff between Scania and Volvo.
The Embassy was proud to field a team made up mostly of beginners and captained by Deputy Head of Mission Joakim Ladeborn. While the morning fixtures proved a steep learning curve, the team found its rhythm after lunch and came in fifth!
Known in Swedish as innebandy, floorball is one of Sweden’s most beloved modern sports — fast-paced, accessible, safe, and inclusive. The sport has also found an enthusiastic following in Singapore with over 10,000 registered players.
Thank you to SwedCham, GED Sports, volunteers, and all participating teams for a memorable weekend!

The 25th ASEAN–EU Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) was held on 27–28 April 2026 in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, bringing together leaders from both regions to advance dialogue and cooperation.
Ambassador Anders Sjoberg Sjöberg represented Sweden, accompanied by Emelie Didrick from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to a rules-based international order, multilateralism, and international law, and the meeting resulted in a joint ministerial declaration. Focus areas included the green transition, digital trade, supply chain resilience, and regional security—particularly maritime security and UNCLOS.
The meeting also highlighted strong economic ties, with ASEAN–EU trade reaching around €400 billion. Both sides explored ways to deepen cooperation, including ongoing trade negotiations and the longer-term goal of a region-to-region free trade agreement, underscoring support for a predictable, transparent, and rules-based multilateral trading system.
Co-chaired by The Honourable Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam and Country Coordinator for ASEAN–EU Dialogue Relations, and Her Excellency Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, the meeting also looked ahead to the 50th anniversary of ASEAN–EU dialogue relations in 2027. It was attended by Foreign Ministers from ASEAN and EU Member States, as well as representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat.
It also provided an opportunity to reconnect with Sweden’s Honorary Consul, Ms Nur Judy Abdullah, further strengthening Sweden’s ties with Brunei and the wider region.
