How can AI help visually impaired athletes run independently?
Google DeepMind is developing a running assistant powered by its Gemma AI model that helps blind and low-vision athletes navigate independently using real-time spatial understanding, without the need for human guides. To bring the solution closer to real-world deployment, Google DeepMind is partnering SG Enable to test and refine the product for accessibility and inclusivity.
This is one of many new AI partnerships and initiatives announced at the Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) Summit, as Singapore continues to strengthen its position as a leading AI hub:
⚪ Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) and Google are partnering to deploy frontier AI models in areas like health and life sciences. Google DeepMind will also train local researchers from the National Research Foundation Singapore on agentic AI tools, and Google Cloud AI tools will be used by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in scientific research and analysis.
⚪ OpenAI announced the “OpenAI for Singapore” initiative with a new Applied AI Lab. Through this, OpenAI will partner with companies to create advanced AI solutions, expand upskilling programmes with the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore and AI Singapore, and co-develop AI training content with SkillsFuture SG.
⚪ Temus launched its AI Foundry, which will create capabilities across areas such as AI architecture, data science, AI/ML engineering, and product development.
