Monthly Scam Bulletin #5 (15 May 2026)

“Hello, remember me?” If you have heard this from a call, be wary and exercise caution!🚨

Scammers are posing as friends to trick you into transferring money urgently.

In some instances, after money transfer has been made, some victims have even received a follow up call from a scammer posing as a police officer, alleging that the earlier transfer was linked to criminal activities.

Victims would be asked to transfer more money to a “safety account” to support investigations.

How you can protect yourself:

‼️Always verify who you are speaking to and never transfer money to unknown persons.

⚠️Government officials, including the Police, will never ask you to transfer money or hand over valuables over a phone call.

Unsure if it’s a scam? Call and check with the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline at 1799 ☎️

Road safety: A traffic officer's perspective 15/05/2026

A Traffic Police officer shared the emotional toll of attending fatal accidents, where every scene is a reminder of lives lost and families torn apart. In one case, a five-year-old girl died in a crash, and the image of her bloodied scooter stayed with the officer long after. In another, a motorcyclist on his way home to his family never made it back.

The hardest moments come after the scene, when officers must face grieving families and deliver the news that their loved one is gone. Even after years on the job, it never gets easier. The pain carried by victims’ families is lasting, and often unimaginable.

These tragedies are not accidents without cause. Many involve speeding, drink driving or a moment of inattention. The consequences are severe, with offenders facing heavy penalties under the law, but no punishment can undo the loss suffered by victims and their families.

Every journey is shared. Slow down, give way and stay focused. Looking out for one another reduces risk, keeps traffic moving smoothly, and helps ensure everyone gets home safely to their loved ones.

Road safety: A traffic officer's perspective A traffic police officer shares his experiences investigating fatal accidents and his plea for greater road safety in Singapore. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.
