A LITTLE HISTORY...

The present day Chong Pang housing estate, known as Chong Pang Garden, is in the Yishun New Town. Built in 1981, Chong Pang Garden is made up of 923 housing units and

is flanked by Sembawang Road, Yishun Ave 5, Yishun Ave 2 and Yishun Ring Road on its four sides. Part of Nee Soon estate, Chong Pang Village was originally called the Westhill Village or Westhill estate. It was named by the government as Chong Pang Village in 1956 as a tribute to Lim Chong Pang (b. 6 June, 1904 Singapore - d. 1956 Singapore), the son of Lim Nee Soon. Like his father, Lim was a prominent businessman and activist. He took up positions at the Singapore Rural Board at early age of 25 to deal with municipal issues such as water supply, markets and building inspections. He also sat on the committee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and was involved in efforts to support the cause of China in its war against Japan. Lim was also a Justice of the Peace and member of the Board of Visitors to the St. John's Island Quarantine Station. One of Lim’s main concerns was with education. He sat on the board of governors at his alma mater, St. Andrew's School, and was also the vice-president of the Old Boys Association of the school. He also acted as one of the trustees of Gan Eng Seng School as well. Lim passed away in 1956 at the age of 52. Upon his demise, the government renamed Westhill Estate, a former rubber estate, Chong Pang Village to mark Lim's contributions to the community there and in Singapore in general. Today, the area where Chong Pang Village was bears very little resemblance to the bustling village that once occupied the area. Most of the roads associated with the village have disappeared. In March 1989, the village was razed to the ground and in its place today stands the Sembawang New Town.

A day out with our residents! 🌿☕

We kicked off the morning with a cosy Coffee with Minister Shanmugam, where residents had the chance to connect and catch up over breakfast. Minister also shared some thoughts on the current situation in the Middle East, giving residents a deeper understanding of global developments closer to home.

But the real adventure began after that! 🎉

Our residents headed off to Exploria Mandai for an afternoon of pure wonder and excitement. From the magical light displays to the incredible nature experiences, it was smiles all around - young and old alike!

It was heartwarming to see families, seniors, and children exploring and discovering together. Moments like these remind us why community outings are so special.

What a night to remember! 🌸

Last week, Chong Pang CC WEC celebrated the mothers of our community in the most special way - a wonderful sit-down dinner complete with lively Getai performances and an exciting table draw that had everyone on the edge of their seats!

It has been close to a decade since we last organised such a dinner for our beloved mothers, and seeing 500 residents come together to honour and celebrate the incredible women in our lives made every moment truly worthwhile.

To every mother who joined us that evening - thank you for gracing us with your presence. You deserve every bit of love and celebration. We hope the night brought you joy, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime.
