❤️ 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭.
A team of six SKH staff recently travelled to the remote villages of Kampung Biram Rayeuk and Kampung Gunci in Aceh, Indonesia, to provide voluntary medical aid to communities affected by severe flooding.
The team comprised Dr Mohamad Fahamy Koenitz Bin Iskandar, Resident Physician, Department of Emergency Medicine; Hafez Bin Tahir, Senior Nurse; Shamala Sivamoorthy Gopalakrishnan, Nurse Clinician; Ahmad Khairil Mohamed Jamil, Senior Nurse Manager; Megan Tay Yi Ru, Staff Nurse (all from the Emergency Department); and Siti Nasriah Binti Yusri, Nurse Educator, Nursing Education and Development. 👏
With both villages having received little medical assistance in the three to four months following the floods, residents often had to rely on a shared van for an eight to nine-hour journey to the nearest hospital. The team helped set up medical tents and provided treatment for respiratory infections, skin conditions caused by contaminated floodwaters, and chronic illnesses. 🩺
The experience was also a powerful reminder of the resilience of the communities they served. Despite language barriers, the team also took time to listen, offer reassurance and support those in need. 🤝
We are proud of our colleagues for extending care beyond our borders and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

When was the last time you did something just for your health, your mood, or your energy?
This June, we’re making it easier and more fun to do exactly that. No pressure, no big commitments, just small moments that could make a big difference to how you feel, for yourself and for others too.
So… which one will you show up for this month?

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 - 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲
Ever been in back-to-back meetings when a colleague stops by looking completely overwhelmed? Your first instinct might be to quickly offer solutions or point them to resources before rushing to your next commitment.
We've all been there - caught between our packed schedules and someone who clearly needs support.
Meet Rizal, Senior Assistant Well-Being Coordinator Lead at SKH, who discovered that sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer isn't advice - it's simply our full attention.
"During one particularly hectic day, a colleague reached out, visibly struggling with work and personal stress," Rizal shares. "Instead of rushing past with quick fixes, we paused. We took a breath and truly listened – offering full attention, empathy and presence.“
That simple act of presence? It transformed everything. The colleague's shoulders relaxed, their voice softened, and a genuine smile emerged.
💭 Next time someone needs support:
• Pause, even when you're busy
• Listen without immediately jumping to solutions
• Offer your full attention, not just quick fixes
• Remember that being heard is often more valuable than being advised
Because in the fast pace of our roles, it's easy to forget that behind every task is a person who needs to be seen and heard - and sometimes creating "a 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦"through kindness and presence are not extras but essentials.

💬 As Singapore transitions into a super-aged society in 2026, conversations around death, dying and end-of-life care are becoming increasingly important.
Associate Professor Melvin Chua, Senior Consultant, Department of Geriatric Medicine at SKH, highlighted the need to normalise these conversations and encourage greater adoption of Advance Care Planning (ACP).
He also shared the importance of strengthening caregiver support and building stronger community capability to support end-of-life care beyond hospital settings. Creating compassionate, community-based care is not just a healthcare priority, but a shared societal responsibility. 🤝

⚠️ Changes in your bowel habits that persist for more than a few weeks should not be ignored.
In conjunction with World Digestive Health Day on 29 May, Dr Cheryl Chong, Consultant, Department of Colorectal Surgery at SKH, reminded the public to pay attention to recurring digestive symptoms and seek medical attention when needed.
Symptoms such as persistent narrow stools, unexplained bleeding, or feeling like your bowel movement is incomplete should be evaluated by a doctor. Constipation that does not improve with dietary changes, or is accompanied by weight loss, abdominal pain or vomiting, may also point to underlying conditions requiring prompt attention.
Being aware of these warning signs and seeking help early can make a difference to your health.
