Happy New Year's Eve friends!
Researchers from NUS Department of Architecture and the Civic Resilience Lab are looking for participants to help with their study of the former Singapore Chinese Girls' School campus at Emerald Hill. This will involve a 1-hour walking interview around the campus and the neighbourhood (if you've been hoping to visit the old school, this is your chance!) and an optional participatory drawing session. You'll get to share your experiences, memories and observations of the area, to create a map of women's needs and aspirations in the city. The end product could inform the planning and design of 37 Emerald Hill in the future too!
Find out more in the images below, spread the word and do sign up if you can!

It’s a wrap!
The Principal’s House was the last stop on our tour around 37 Emerald Hill. For the last two weekends in May, as part of Singapore Heritage Festival 2024, we have welcomed close to 300 visitors to the site.💪🏻😃
We are so glad to have had the opportunity to guide all our participants down memory lane. Thank you for joining us on this journey to the past, with a glimpse into the future.
A great big THANK YOU to our wonderful group of volunteers who have made this effort not just possible, but incredibly fun too! 😍And as always, our wonderful teachers who are our biggest supporters! 🥰💚💛

Thanks to everyone who joined us - through the heat and the rain - for the first weekend of tours back at 37 Emerald Hill. From the nutmeg plantation days to World War II and the Centrepoint years, the murder mysteries (!), the legendary meepok and the secret spots where girls were “friended” and “un-friended”, It was lovely to be able to share the history and heritage of our old school with all of you. And to the Singapore Chinese Girls' School alumni who were back at school for the first time in decades, we hope you had as much fun remembering your school days as we did! The spaces may look different these days but they’re alive as ever with all our stories. (PS. If anyone decided to go home and watch Passion Flower, please remember your reviews should be submitted to Mrs Florence Tan when you’re done 🤗)

In Parliament last week, we announced plans to implement a Heritage Assessment Framework to strengthen efforts to safeguard our built heritage.
Conserving our built heritage is an important part of our national building, and the HIA framework will build on top of the existing processes in place. HIAs are likely to be required only for large-scale redevelopment projects that potentially impact sites containing clusters of buildings and structures with potential heritage value. Agencies will regularly review the framework such that it remains relevant and robust.
