YOUTH MINISTER LEADS CHARGE AGAINST DRUG ABUSE ON AFRICA YOUTH DAY

To commemorate Africa Youth Day, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, in collaboration with partners, organized a impactful health walk and beach clean-up exercise today. The event, which drew hundreds of young people, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Forging Pathways for Youth Empowerment: Inaugural Meeting Between Youth and Private Sector Leaders at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development

In a groundbreaking step toward creating meaningful opportunities for young people in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) hosted its inaugural meeting between youth ministers, agency and private sector leaders. The session aimed to strengthen collaboration, Co-create and build practical strategies to address youth issues one challenge at a time through effective partnerships and shared responsibility.

The meeting emphasized that while numerous youth focused initiatives exist, fragmented and uncoordinated approaches often yield limited impact. To change this narrative, participants agreed on the need for a harmonized framework that connects government, private sector, and development partners in implementing youth development programs that drive real, measurable outcomes.

During the discussions, speakers called for a mindset shift from addressing to Implementing. This inaugural dialogue marks the beginning of a new collaborative era where the Ministries, private sector, and youth stakeholders unite under a common vision to build an inclusive and sustainable future for the nation’s young people.

This is all geared towards building a perfect part for our young people in Sierra Leone 🇸🇱

*National Youth Service Hosts One-Day Entrepreneurship Training for Corps Members in Bo*

In a bid to empower young graduates with critical skills for self-reliance and economic independence, the National Youth Service (NYS), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), hosted a One Day Entrepreneurship Training for members of the Youth Service Corps in Bo.

The training brought together corps members from various disciplines to engage in practical sessions on entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable business development.

*The initiative is geared toward equipping participants with essential knowledge in business planning, financial management, and job creation strategies empowering them to become proactive agents of change and development within their communities.*

This capacity-building exercise aligns with the Government of Sierra Leone’s broader vision to address youth unemployment through strategic investment in skills development, entrepreneurship, and private sector engagement. By fostering a culture of innovation and self-employment, the NYS and its partners aim to nurture a new generation of job creators rather than job seekers.
