The Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition was established by an act of parliament in 2010 to regulate and supervise the manufacture,trade,possession and use of arms,ammunitions and other related materials throughout Sierra Leone.

Our National Action Plan has been validated today. This document will direct the work of the Commission for the next five years. Member of Parliament form Kenema District, Hon. Julian A. Fatorma declared the document validated after questions, comments, and suggestions were made by political and technical experts.
The document is now set to be launched in December 2024. Many thanks to Small Arms Survey,MAG (Mines Advisory Group) for their relentless support to the Commission over the years. We remain grateful and committed to working with our development partners with the view to ensuring that peace and security in Sierra Leone is achieved.

Today, a team from The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Accra Ghana paid a courtesy call on the Commission and interviewed all senior managers. The visit was part of efforts to review their curriculum for 2024/5 training programs.
The visitors were briefed by the Deputy Commissioner Lt.Col. Foday Luke-Ndanema, on the mandate of the Commission and the general security situation in the country with regards to illegal manufacture, trade, trafficking, possession and use of arms and ammunition. He commended the Centre for their cooperation with the Commission over the years and made a clarion called for training opportunities for staff.
The senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at KAIPTC, Mr. Ernest Kissi thanked the senior managers of the Commission for what he described as ‘succinct and in depth’ responses to their interview questions.

The personnel are now removing the bombs from their white plastic and detaching the fuses from each bomb before loading the fuseless bombs into the two blasting pitches where they will be detonated in batches two hours from now.

With Funds and technical support from the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), the commission in collaboration with Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) will today commenced the demolition of huge amount of unserviceable High Explosives and the incineration of about 622,879 small arms ammunition. The destruction of these ammo will take place in five Control Demolition Sites (CDS) nationwide, including Gondama in Bo dist.,Daru, Kabala, Kambia and Arms Forces Training Center, Benguima, Western Rural Dist.

The pictures here show the RSLAF team preparing the site in Gondama, where the first blasting is expected to happen around 2pm today. In all, over 2000 high explosives are expected to be demolished in the next three days. Our next stop will be Daru, where preparations for the blasting have already begun.
