On this day in 1963, visionary African leaders gathered in Addis Ababa to found the Africa Union, declaring to the world that Africaโs future belongs to Africans.
63 years later, that foundational spirit lives on. We see it every day in Sierra Leone and across the continent, vibrant in every young leader, innovator, and changemaker rising to champion the cause of total liberation, driving forward self-determination, sovereignty, and sustainable development.
At UNDP Sierra Leone, we honor the revolutionaries who championed the total liberation of African nations, and we remain deeply dedicated to partnering with youth, women, and institutions to build the inclusive, resilient, and sovereign Africa We Want.
