Back home in Kafountine after several months in Europe for WOMAD Festival, visiting family and friends, holding our September workshop in France, and of course eating huge amounts of French cheese!
The garden has grown and pruning just to get to our shower has been necessary! Looking forward to guests arriving this winter, whether for learning kora, or just enjoying amazing birdlife, great food and sunshine :-)

Exciting and positive news from Niokolo Koba Park. We have been there a few times and are going again with guests in April. It will be really hot but the advantage of going then is there are fewer watering holes so it's easier to find and observe the animals.
We were incredibly lucky a few years ago to see a lone lion, don't expect to be so lucky again but it is wonderful to know their numbers are increasing!

Our Story
A unique West African holiday venue, enabling kora students and others to enjoy being part of our local community. Come to our tranquil, idyllic home set in 7 hectares of bush. The land is now registered as a Forest Reserve and we have an observation tower and a large wildlife pond to encourage birds and animals.
People come from all over the world to learn the kora from Adam as he has many years of experience both as a player and a teacher. A wonderful opportunity to sit and learn to play without the usual distractions of a busy life. Others come to simply to spend a holiday in this unique setting. There is privacy whilst still being open to the community. Everyone is welcome to come and eat with us, friends, guests, family and staff all eat together. Delicious home cooked traditonal dishes served in large bowls to share. Simple clean rooms and good facilities mean people come back to us year after year, which we take as the best compliment.
Kora teaching is in the mornings and there are activities such as kayaking, batik, balafon lessons that can be arranged. The town is a 20 minute walk away, as is the beach and Kofi’s little beach bar. Longer walks through the bush will bring you to another part of the beach and Esperanto Lodge with it’s bar, restaurant and beach bar. The sea beckons and the largely deserted beach is great for cycling to Abene which is the neighbouring beachside village, when the tide is out.
The history of the place is that Adam bought 4 hectares back in 2007, largely on impulse and with no plans, only to preserve some of the bush for the monkeys and brds that our good frined Moussa was afraid hs children would not see if the bush continued to be cut down. The idea of having somewhere warm to be in the winters certainly had something to do with it, but in essence was just a ‘let’s do it’ moment, and he did! Since then a purchase of neighbouring land that has been cut and burned has led us into thinking more and more about regeneration and increasing bio-diversity. If we ever can, we’ll buy more land to create a larger area for wildlife, much needed in world where the pressure on resources grows year on year.
