At the 36th Annual AFLI Conference, hosted in .
During the conference, new data on book publishing across Arab countries (2022–2023) was presented. The figures highlight an encouraging development for :
🇸🇴 Somalia recorded a significant rise from 1,116 published books in 2022 to 9,000 books in 2023.
This remarkable increase reflects the growing momentum in our knowledge ecosystem, the revival of scholarly publishing, and the expanding role of libraries, universities, and cultural institutions in advancing access to information.

Somalia’s Participation in the 36th Arab Federation for Libraries and Information Conference – Qatar 2025
The SLA is pleased to announce that our President, Mr. Mohamud Mohamed Siad, will officially represent Somalia and the overall Somali library sector at the 36th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information, hosted in Doha, Qatar, from 23–25 November 2025.
The conference, organized by the Qatar National Library (QNL), focuses this year on the theme:
“Digital Justice and Arab Information Institutions: Enhancing Partnership, Sustainability, and Digital Transformation.”
Somalia’s participation in this landmark regional gathering is a significant step toward:

Somali Library Association Commends SIMAD University’s Book Donation Initiative
Somali Library Association (SLA) commends SIMAD University for its generous donation of over 500 books to Baidoa International University, an initiative aimed at strengthening academic libraries and promoting access to knowledge across Somali higher education institutions.
The Association recognizes this contribution as an important step toward advancing reading culture, supporting research and learning, and fostering collaboration among universities in Somalia.
We also extend our appreciation to Mr. Mohamud Mohamed Siad, Director of University Libraries at SIMAD University and our own President of the Somali Library Association, for his continued leadership and commitment to empowering libraries and building a knowledge-based society.
