Arcangelo Juma Akol, from Lietnhom County in Warrap State, has joined the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO).

He was received by the party’s Secretary-General, Comrade Agok Makur Kur, accompanied by a representative from Warrap State and former Member of Parliament, Comrade Mayom Manyual.

The Secretary-General welcomed the new member, affirming that the party embraces all the people of South Sudan and that such additions represent a genuine strengthening of the party’s base in Warrap State.

The party's Secretary-General, Cde Agok Makur, welcomed Cde Ajang Joseph Deng and Cde Mading Chol Atem, who joined the party this morning at the General Secretariat, appreciating their joining and stressing that they are a real addition and experience that will contribute to strengthening the party's march.

The Secretary-General stressed that the party opens its doors to all the people of South Sudan who wish to join and contribute to building the nation.

Party’s Interim Chairperson of the Youth League Assumes Duties at General Secretariat Headquarters and Calls on Youth to Register

Cde Bol Deng Thiony, Chairperson of the Party’s Interim Youth League, has officially assumed his new office at the party’s General Secretariat headquarters. The Party Deputy Chairman, Cde Lasuba Ludoru Wongo, and the Secretary-General, Cde Agok Makur Kur, attended the event, marking a step to bolster youth-focused activities and activate the role of young people within the party structure.

After the handover ceremony and the official commencement of his duties, Mr Deng invited youth to visit the General Secretariat headquarters and register for membership.

Mr Deng explained that the registration process is part of an effort to identify youth cadres and compile a comprehensive database. This serves as a preparatory step for the upcoming General Convention, where a new youth League leadership will be elected to represent the aspirations of youth members and steer organisational activities in the next phase.

During the event, the party leadership affirmed its full support for the interim committee, emphasising the importance of empowering young people and providing them with opportunities to participate actively in party and political decision-making.

The Secretary-General of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO), Comrade Agok Makur, met with party leaders and members from Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, led by former NLA MP and party Leader Hon. John Junub.

The meeting addressed the overall organisational and political situation in the state and reviewed the challenges facing the party’s grassroots base in Magwi County. Discussions also covered mechanisms to enhance communication between the General Secretariat and leadership at the state and local levels.

The Secretary-General commended the efforts of the party’s leaders and cadres in Magwi County and their role in upholding the principles of the SPLM-IO. He emphasised the central leadership's commitment to addressing organisational matters and providing the necessary support to strengthen the party's presence and readiness for upcoming political phases.

For his part, Cde John Junub and the accompanying delegation appreciated the General Secretariat's attention to state and county-level issues. Leaders and members of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) from Northern Bahr el Ghazal State held an expanded consultative meeting—attended by the former Speaker of the Council of States Rt. Hon Daniel Akot Akot —to discuss organizing the party's internal affairs within the state and strengthening its role in the public arena.

Characterized by a spirit of national responsibility and organizational diligence, the meeting addressed plans to activate the party's various structures in Northern Bahr el Ghazal and formulated a strategic vision to unify internal ranks and boost the movement's grassroots presence.

Discussions focused on the importance of mobilizing the state's residents for active and significant participation—extending beyond the local level to the national stage—to ensure a strong, influential presence for the party and the state's issues in all upcoming political and electoral forums and processes.

Marino Duku Prominent Leaders Join SPLM-IO Party in a Move Described as "Exceptional"

Marino Michael Sebit Duku, the Central Equatoria State leader of the People Democratic Movement PDM, has announced that he—along with a group of political figures represented by Ms Ferida John Khalifa and Baitrice Jukudu—is joining the party, citing his belief in its political platform and overarching goals.

This move follows Duku’s decision to break away from the People Democratic Movement Party faction led by Josephine Lago (a former Vice President), which represents the SSOA alliance within the government.

For his part, the party’s Secretary-General, Cde Agok Makor, welcomed the development, calling it an "exceptional and significant" addition, given the political weight and extensive experience he brings, drawing on his past professional and political career with Sudan’s National Congress Party.

Youth Elect Interim Leadership to Manage Youth Affairs Under Directives from the Secretary-General

Under the directives of the Secretary-General of the SPLM-IO, Cde Agok Makur, the Youth held a significant meeting. During the meeting, an interim leadership team was elected to manage youth affairs until the General Convention takes place.

The election process resulted in the selection of:

- Mr Bol Deng Thiony as Youth League Chairperson
- Ms Caroline Nathan as Deputy Chairperson
- Mr Lam William as Secretary-General

In his address to the meeting, the Secretary-General, Agok Makur, emphasised the necessity of unity and mobilising the youth base across all states.

He underscored the importance of the youth within the party and their pivotal role, stressing the need to value their efforts and ensure their active participation at all levels of organisational and political work.

For his part, the newly elected Youth Chairperson, Cde Bol Deng, affirmed his commitment to fostering youth unity, consolidating their ranks, and ensuring their fair representation in any future government formations—given that they constitute the vast majority of society, exceeding 70% of the population.

The Party’s Women’s League concluded its periodic meetings by electing new leadership to steer the League's activities.

The election selected Hon. Anok Buol as Interim Chair of the Women’s League and Ms Josephine Nakuru as Secretary-General of the new body.

Committee Chair Hon. Asunta Nicola handed over leadership duties to the newly elected bureau in a positive atmosphere.

The new Women League Leadership is scheduled to meet in the coming days to finalise the remaining structures of the women's administration. Additionally, it was decided to reappoint Hon Asunta Nicola as an advisor to the new leadership to leverage her organisational expertise.

For his part, Comrade Agok Makur, the Party’s Secretary-General, welcomed this democratic step. He issued a sincere call to the women to unite their ranks and work together with a unified team spirit to serve the agenda and interests of women, ensuring their effective representation at all levels.

In her first remarks after assuming office, the Women League Interim Chair pledged to exert her utmost efforts to unite and organise the women's sector.

She vowed to work tirelessly to ensure the protection of women's rights and to enhance their leading role both within and outside the Party.

SG Meets with SPLM-IO Chair in Ruweng Administrative Area to Discuss Party Development

As part of his ongoing organisational tour and meetings, Secretary-General Agok Makur met with Comrade Chol Jau, the Party Chairman in the Ruweng Administrative Area.

The meeting addressed various issues regarding the strengthening and development of the party’s organisation within the Administrative Area, as well as ways to enhance the capabilities and preparedness of party cadres to ensure their effective participation in the upcoming phase.

Both sides also emphasised the importance of mobilising efforts and focusing on early preparations for the anticipated elections.

This move is part of the General Secretariat’s plans to foster direct communication with leadership ranks across various states and administrative areas, aiming to align visions and ensure organisational readiness for the period ahead.
