The constitution-making process is a cornerstone of democracy and good governance. It is crucial that all citizens actively advocate for and participate in the drafting of the forthcoming permanent constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, as it is key to addressing the country’s persistent governance challenges.
A strong constitution establishes a clear separation of powers, fostering institutions robust enough to oversee and balance power, as opposed to having individuals controlling institutions.
It is imperative that the citizens of South Sudan take an active role in shaping the permanent constitution. This is the only path to building a nation that truly reflects the aspirations of its people.
In this spirit, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, in partnership with Oxfam, organized a three-day workshop on the constitution-making process for civil servants, women's groups, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders. Held from October 1-3, 2024, the workshop was facilitated by experts from the National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC), the National Elections Commission (NEC), and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MPA).
