This afternoon, The Honourable Ambassador Akuei Bona Malual, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with Mr. Mamadou Dian Balde, Regional Director (Bureau for Eastern and Southern Africa), Mr. Matthew Brook, Representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for a courtesy call.
The meeting underscored the strengthening of collaboration on issues relating to refugee protection, legal assistance, immigration and the promotion of human rights. Furthermore, both parties explored avenues to enhance support for asylum seekers and refugees and highlighted regional and international developments.
The Hon. Deputy Minister commended UNHCR for its continued partnership and reiterated the Governmentโs commitment to upholding respect for human rights. The courtesy call reaffirmed the shared goal of building a sustained and proactive relationship.

Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egyptโs Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, on the sidelines of the KoreaโAfrica Ministerial Meeting in Seoul.
The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on regional developments and opportunities for greater collaboration in East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
Dr. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egyptโs commitment to its longstanding relations with South Sudan and expressed support for expanding cooperation in capacity building, technical Cooperation, infrastructure development, and training programs.
The meeting also addressed cooperation among Nile Basin countries, with both Ministers emphasizing the importance of dialogue, coordination, and sustainable management of shared water resources in line with international law.
The ministers agreed to continue close consultation and coordination to advance bilateral relations, support regional peace and stability, and promote the shared interests of the people of South Sudan and Egypt.

On the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministersโ Meeting, Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan held a bilateral meeting with the Republic of Koreaโs Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Cho Hyun. Hon. Amb Dr. Morgan thanked Korea for hosting the conference and noted that the partnership between the two nations has grown from aspiration into genuine necessity.
On regional peace, Hon. Amb Dr. Morgan reaffirmed South Sudanโs role as an impartial mediator in the Sudan conflict, drawing on President H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayarditโs conviction that lasting peace comes only through dialogue, and confirmed Jubaโs readiness to host negotiations when called upon. H.E. Cho reaffirmed Koreaโs commitment to South Sudanโs development, citing the contributions of Korean peacekeeping forces in infrastructure and agricultural training as testament to a partnership built on shared purpose.
Looking ahead, Hon. Amb Dr. Morgan proposed to the Koreans to opening a Korean Embassy in Juba, an Honorary Consulate of the Republic of South Sudan in the Republic of Korea, high-level visits, diplomatic training and scholarships for South Sudanese youth, and Korean support for Nile River transport development. Both sides concluded the meeting, with the Republic of Korea pledging support for the Republic of South Sudanโs general elections in December 2026 with both nations committing to a deeper, more strategic partnership.

The Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation participated in the 2026 Korea-Africa Foreign Ministersโ Meeting in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The conference under the theme โStrengthening Economic Cooperation and Promoting Shared Prosperity and Sustainable Growthโ and the second session under โJoint Responses to Global Challenges Korea - Africa Solidarityโ highlighted critical global challenges, where the Hon. Morgan conveyed the strong bilateral relationship between South Sudan and Korea.
Furthermore, the Hon. Morgan conveyed greetings from His Excellency President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit to President Lee Jae-Myung and thanked the Government of the Republic of Korea for convening the meeting at a critical time emphasising the contributions of KOICA and ongoing cooperation in development and capacity-building.
Hon. Morgan also noted that the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement continues to guide South Sudanโs transition and preparations for the December 2026 general elections. He emphasized the countryโs growing investment potential, recent successes in agriculture and trade promotion and invited the Korean Government and their private sectors.
Hon. Morgan also welcomed Koreaโs climate initiatives, reaffirmed South Sudanโs commitment to environmental cooperation, and expressed appreciation for the Hanbit Unit and bilateral defense cooperation. He concluded by stressing the importance of stronger people-to-people ties and a strategic partnership that delivers mutual benefits for both nations.

During the session, Ambassador Philip reaffirmed South Sudanโs commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing international cooperation to advance shared development objectives.
The discussions focused on areas of mutual interest, including sustainable development, economic cooperation, and partnerships aimed at promoting peace and prosperity.
South Sudanโs participation reflects its continued engagement with global partners and its preparations for the Ministerial Meeting. Hon.Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is expected to attend the Ministerial Meeting on Monday.

The Hon. Amb. Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has arrived in Seoul to participate in the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministersโ Meeting, a high-level forum aimed at deepening partnerships between Africa and the Republic of Korea.
Upon arrival, Hon. Amb. Dr. Morgan was received by Amb. Philip Natana Jada, Director General of Directorate of Bilateral Relations and the accompanying delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
During the meeting, Hon. Amb. Dr. Morgan is expected to hold discussions on economic opportunities, development cooperation and the strengthening of bilateral relations between South Sudan and the Republic of Korea.

This afternoon, the Honourable Ambassador Dr. James Pitia Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation departed Juba International Airport to participate in the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministersโ Meeting scheduled to take place between 31 May to 2 June 2026 in Seoul, Republic of South Korea, following an invitation from the Honourable Cho Hyun, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Korea.
The High-Level engagement under the theme โPartnership for Joint Responses to Global Challengesโ will bring together African and Korean Foreign Ministers to strengthen cooperation in several key areas including; trade, investment, infrastructure development, technology, energy, education, agriculture, peace, security and sustainable economic growth.
The Honourable Minister is also expected to deepen AfricaโKorea relations by holding several sideline meetings to discuss new avenues for further cooperation.
