Why the United South Sudan Party Uses the Term โCompatriot (s)โ
The United South Sudan Party (USSP), established in May 2005 in London by concerned South Sudanese, was founded on a clear and Ideology of Liberal democracy as a principled vision of a free society: to advocate for the welfare of the people and to provide a platform through which marginalized communities can pursue social and economic justice. Today, USSP stands as a duly registered political party, recognized among the political organizations under the Political Parties Council.
A distinctive feature of the partyโs internal culture and public engagement is the consistent use of the term โCompatriotโ when addressing its members. This choice of expression is both deliberate and deeply symbolic.
The word compatriot denotes a fellow citizenโan individual bound to others by a shared national identity and common belonging. Within the context of USSP, it serves as a constant reminder of the collective identity of South Sudanese people, transcending divisions of ethnicity, region, or social standing.
The adoption of this term reflects the foundational principle embedded in the partyโs name: unity. By addressing one another as compatriots, members affirm their commitment to solidarity, equality, and mutual respect. It underscores the belief that all citizens are equal stakeholders in the nationโs present and future.
Furthermore, this practice aligns with the broader vision of USSPโto promote a democratic, inclusive, and just society in which every citizen has the opportunity to participate meaningfully in public life. It reinforces the notion that nation-building is a shared responsibility, requiring cooperation, understanding, and a unified sense of purpose.
In this regard, the term โCompatriotโ is not merely a form of address; it is an expression of political identity and national consciousness. It embodies the aspiration for a united South Sudan where diversity is embraced, and collective progress is pursued for the common good.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
As faith-based leaders and politicians, this is a call to unity of purpose and voice. Let our message be oneโa voice of peaceโto end the suffering of the people of South Sudan.
Our nation needs healing, not division. It is time to prioritize what truly matters:
Building schools for our children, strengthening hospitals for our people, stabilizing our markets for economic growth, and ensuring security so our people can return to their farms, cultivate freely, and provide food for the nation.
Without safety, there is no farming. Without farming, there is no food. Without food, there is no future.
Let us rise above differences and work together for the good of our nation.
Peace is the foundation of progress. Unity is the path forward.

INTERNATIONAL LABOUR DAY MESSAGE 1ST MAY
From United South Sudan Party (USSP), Central Equatoria State
The United South Sudan Party (USSP), Central Equatoria State, joins the people of South Sudan and the global community in commemorating International Labour Day, a day set aside to recognize the dignity, sacrifices, and contributions of workers in building nations and sustaining societies.
Today, we pay tribute to the hardworking men and women of South Sudan โ teachers, nurses, doctors, soldiers, police officers, farmers, drivers, engineers, traders, administrators, cleaners, and all civil servants whose labour keeps our country alive despite enormous hardships.
However, this yearโs commemoration comes at a painful and difficult time when many workers, especially civil servants, continue to suffer under unbearable economic conditions. The persistent non-payment and delay of salaries, the rapid depreciation of the South Sudanese Pound, rising cost of food and transport, poor working conditions, and lack of essential services have pushed many families into desperation and poverty.
It is deeply troubling that the very people entrusted with delivering services to our citizens are left unpaid for months, while they continue to report to work faithfully. Teachers are expected to educate without salaries. Health workers are expected to save lives while struggling to feed their own families. Security personnel are expected to maintain peace and order while enduring economic neglect. Civil servants are expected to serve the nation without the dignity of timely wages.
This situation is unjust, unsustainable, and unacceptable.
The United South Sudan Party (USSP), Central Equatoria State, therefore calls upon the government and all relevant institutions to urgently:
1. Ensure immediate payment of all outstanding salaries and regular monthly wages to civil servants.
2. Introduce effective economic reforms to stabilize the currency and reduce inflation.
3. Improve working conditions and welfare of all workers across the country.
4. Prioritize education, health, agriculture, and public service sectors in national budgeting.
5. Uphold transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public resources.
No nation can progress when its workers are neglected. No government can claim success while civil servants remain unpaid and hungry. Workers are not a burdenโthey are the engine of national development.
To the resilient workers of South Sudan, we say: your sacrifices are seen, your pain is real, and your service is valued. Continue to stand firm in hope and unity as we collectively strive for justice, dignity, and a better future for our beloved nation.
As we mark this Labour Day, let it be a reminder that the prosperity of South Sudan depends on respecting the rights and welfare of its workers.
Happy International Labour Day.
