Why do Americans call it soccer and Emaswati football? Why is an American jersey a sports shirt with a number on the back and in Eswatini it’s a warm outer layer of clothing?

The Sister City Program between Fort Worth and Mbabane are tackling these fun questions and some deep ones as part of their youth exchange program. This week, we were honored to welcome the Fort Worth Student Delegation and engage alongside representatives from the Municipal Council Of Mbabane in a series of enriching activities focused on youth development, cultural exchange, and international collaboration.

On Monday, participants visited the U.S. Embassy, where they met with CDA Weinstock and learned about the work of a U.S. embassy and gained perspective on diplomacy, public service, and professional growth.

On Tuesday, the engagement continued at American Corner Mbabane with an interactive Youth Exchange Roundtable. Bringing together the visiting delegation, STEM Mentorship Program participants, and Mbabane students selected for the upcoming cultural exchange program in Fort Worth in July, the session fostered meaningful discussions on youth leadership, innovation, community engagement, and cross-cultural understanding.

These experiences reflect the strength of international partnerships and the importance of creating platforms where young people can connect, learn from one another, and build lasting relationships that transcend borders.

Last week, Chargé d’ Affaires Marc Weinstock visited the Royal Science and Technology Park to explore opportunities for U.S.–Eswatini collaboration in the growing digital and innovation space.
The visit included engagements at the National Data Center, the Advanced School of Information Technology, and the Business Incubation Center, highlighting the important work being done to advance Eswatini’s innovation ecosystem. During the tour, the CDA encouraged continued focus on digital transformation and emphasized that small investments can be just as impactful in driving innovation and growth.

Although Charlie Lockwood, Executive Director of the Museum of International Folk Art visited Eswatini to celebrate U.S. cultural heritage and , we knew he wanted to experience as much of Eswatini as he could. We heard your suggestions and visited some amazing sites! Day one was the Eswatini National Museum (tip- say yes when they offer to guide you through the exhibits!) and Mantenga Nature Reserve and Cultural Village (tip- if you sit in the front be prepared to dance!).

Thank you to Eswatini National Trust Commission for making these spaces inviting and informative for visitors!
