Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has taken direct action against technology-related crimes by establishing a national committee to coordinate efforts against call center gangs and online scam networks. Government Spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat said the move highlights the Prime Minister’s determination to protect citizens from widespread financial harm caused by cybercrime.

Under the Office of the Prime Minister’s order, the National Committee for the Prevention and Suppression of Technology-Related Crimes will serve as a coordination body linking key agencies, including the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Ministry of Justice, the Bank of Thailand, and national intelligence units. Prime Minister Anutin will chair the committee to ensure full cooperation and oversight across all sectors.

Committee members include Pol Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, and the commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau. The group will lead investigations, enforcement, and prosecutions targeting both domestic and cross-border networks, integrating legal, technological, and institutional strategies to dismantle cybercrime operations.

Siripong added that border closures remain in effect to pressure neighboring countries, especially Cambodia, to act against scammer networks. The restrictions will continue until Cambodia meets Thailand’s four conditions, including stronger suppression of criminal groups operating along the border.

With the new committee set to convene its first meeting on October 20, the government is preparing to intensify measures across legal, technological, and international channels to strengthen cybercrime prevention and ensure public safety in the digital sphere.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone presided over a ceremony in Vientiane today (Oct 16) to witness the exchange of memorandums of understanding and the delivery of assistance from Thailand to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). The event reaffirmed the enduring friendship and expanding cooperation between the two countries as they celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

The ceremony included one memorandum of understanding and four areas of assistance from Thailand to Laos. The MOU between the Export–Import Bank of Thailand and the Agricultural Promotion Bank of Lao PDR strengthens financial collaboration and supports greater access to credit between the two nations.

Thailand also provided 10 million baht in financial support for a joint project to prevent the trafficking of precursor chemicals used in narcotics production. Other contributions included anti-venom serum valued at 875,000 baht for public health services and vocational training equipment worth nearly 1.5 million baht to support workforce development.

In addition, Thailand is providing technical assistance for the detailed design of Phase 2 of Laos’s water supply system development project, valued at around 30 million baht. The project will help improve water infrastructure and expand access to clean water in Lao communities.
