FILIPINA FARMER WINS FARMER LEADER AT THE FUTURE FARMER AWARD 2026 AGRITECHNICA ASIA

BANGKOK, 25 MAY 2026 - Mrs. Leah Salvaleon, president of the Bukidnon PhilGAP Farmers Association, won the Farmer Leader category at the Future Farmer Award 2026 for her decade‑long work in Bukidnon, Philippines. She is among the three farmers recognized for their contribution to the future of farming through practical, scalable, and community-driven solutions.

The Award is part of the Future Farmer Program of AGRITECHNICA ASIA and HORTEX 2026, which recognizes farmers across Asia who are driving real innovation, strong leadership, and measurable impact in agriculture. The ceremony was held on May 22, 2026 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC).

After retiring as an educator, Mrs. Salvaleon started a 300‑square‑meter demonstration farm in 2010 that grew into a 10‑hectare integrated, climate‑resilient operation by 2026. She developed low‑cost, zero‑waste innovations, such as a biofertilizer from corn cobs, rice hulls, goat manure and a fermented azolla foliar feed, and promoted diversified production with livestock and forage to reduce input dependency and boost resilience.

As President of the Bukidnon PhilGAP Farmers Association, she led a market‑driven clustering approach that linked farmers to institutional buyers, improving supply consistency, bargaining power, and incomes. Her farm is a recognized Learning Site for Agriculture where hundreds of farmers and students have been trained, turning on‑farm innovations into scalable, community‑led solutions.

Mrs. Salvaleon met the Philippine Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Millicent C. Paredes, following the Award ceremony on May 22, 2026.

Other awardees are Mr. Kittisak Maka of Thailand, hailed as Outstanding Young Smart Farmer, and Ms. Lao Sushan of China, conferred as Outstanding Woman Farmer.
