On 28-29 May 2026, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Christophe Hansen visited Thailand to strengthen EU–Thailand agri-food relations and open new opportunities for European agri-food exports in this fast-growing market.

The mission combined high-level engagement with Thai Ministers, public authorities and key stakeholders with strong business outreach.

High-level meetings with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Prof. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Watcharaphon Khaokham, Thailand Trade Representative Werapong Prapha, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sarun Charoensuwan and Vice Minister for Commerce Dr. Kirida Bhaopichitr focused on the future of the EU–Thailand partnership, including progress in negotiations on the EU–Thailand Free Trade Agreement, agricultural trade, market access, sanitary and phytosanitary standards, and Geographical Indications (GIs).

With nearly 100 European agri-food companies and organisations taking part, the mission helped EU operators gain market intelligence, build business contacts and explore concrete commercial opportunities. The EU also showcased the quality, diversity, safety and sustainability of European agri-food products through business-to-business activities and visits, including at THAIFEX–Anuga Asia in Bangkok.

A highlight of the visit was –Anuga Asia, one of Asia’s leading food and beverage trade fairs, where this year the EU is the region of honour, represented by the EU and Member States pavilions. Commissioner Hansen met with Thai stakeholders and European businesses and saw first-hand the creativity, quality and innovation that are driving Thailand’s agri-food sector forward.

EU Awards GI Certificate to Ratchaburi Aromatic Coconut Producers

The European Union (EU) is pleased to present the Geographical Indication (GI) certificate to the producers of Maphrao Namhorn Ratchaburi, Ratchaburi Aromatic Coconut recently registered as a GI in the European Union.

European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, Christophe Hansen, Ambassador of the EU to Thailand, Luisa Ragher, and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Chakra Yodmani, joined the celebration, which took place at Thaifex-Anuga Asia and acknowledged the importance of protecting authenticity, quality, and origin of products.

🥥The joint toasting with a ‘specially created’ signature cocktail symbolizing the marriage of EU and Thai authentic traditions composed of Ratchaburi Aromatic Coconut and Irish Whiskey, latest EU GI registered in Thailand, highlight the importance of trading respective reputed agricultural products, protected by geographical indication for wider competitiveness, consumer trust and sustainable growth of local communities.

The EU supports strong protection and enforcement of GIs and other intellectual property rights, alongside capacity-building efforts across Southeast Asia, notably though initiatives such as the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package on Intellectual Property Rights (SCOPE IPR), investing in competitiveness and fostering balanced, mutually beneficial partnerships.

In celebration of the Pride Month this year, the 🇪🇺🇹🇭 is organising a “Youth Dialogue Caravan on Gender Equality and LGBTQIA+ Rights in Thailand”, featuring panel discussions on issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly the youth.

The Caravan will kick off in BANGKOK.
