NIA Receives the “Global Top 50 Ecosystem Breakthrough” Award 2026 from StartupBlink, Reinforcing Its Role in Advancing Thailand’s Startup Ecosystem onto the Global Stage
The National Innovation Agency (Public Organization), or NIA, under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), has received the “Global Top 50 Ecosystem Breakthrough Award” from StartupBlink at the Startup Ecosystem Awards 2026. NIA accepted the award on behalf of Thailand’s startup ecosystem, following Thailand’s entry into the world’s Top 50 startup ecosystems for the first time.
According to the Global Startup Ecosystem Index (GSEI) 2026, Thailand climbed four places to 49th globally, while its population-adjusted GSEI score increased by 62.6% compared with 2025, reflecting the progress made by Thailand’s startup ecosystem in recent years.
In addition, Thailand recorded the highest ranking among the countries that entered the Global Top 50 between the 2025 and 2026 rankings. This represents another significant signal of the growth and advancement of Thailand’s startup ecosystem toward the global stage.
Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), said: “The Global Top 50 Ecosystem Breakthrough Award is more than recognition of NIA’s role. It is recognition of the dedication and collaboration of everyone and every organization working together to build Thailand’s innovation ecosystem, whether startups, investors, the private sector, educational institutions, government agencies, or partners from all sectors.
NIA believes that innovation can grow strongly when people, ideas, technology, and opportunities are connected. Our mission is therefore not only to support Thai innovators and entrepreneurs in growing domestically, but also to create opportunities for them to connect with markets, investors, and partners at the regional and global levels.
Thailand’s entry into the Global Top 50 and receiving this award is both a source of pride and a driving force for all of us to move forward, to strengthen connections, create new opportunities for entrepreneurs, and transform innovation potential into real-world applications and impact, both domestically and globally.
NIA would like to thank all sectors that have been part of this journey. The success of Thailand’s innovation ecosystem is not the result of any single organization, but of the collective power of everyone working together to create opportunities, connect resources, and continuously enable Thailand to connect with the global innovation ecosystem.”
Over the years, NIA has continued to develop Thailand’s innovation ecosystem through comprehensive support mechanisms, ranging from entrepreneur capacity building and innovation funding to connecting startups with businesses, investors, and partners both domestically and internationally. NIA has also created opportunities for entrepreneurs to test and deploy their technologies in real-world markets and expand their businesses internationally.
These efforts aim to create an environment in which startups can access knowledge, technology, funding, markets, and business partners, while enabling them to translate their technological potential into real-world applications, revenue generation, investment opportunities, and international business expansion.
Thailand’s rise to 49th globally in the Global Startup Ecosystem Index 2026 and its receipt of the Global Top 50 Ecosystem Breakthrough Award therefore represent another important milestone in the development of Thailand’s startup ecosystem. They reflect the collective strength of stakeholders across sectors in creating an environment conducive to the growth of innovative businesses, while providing Thai entrepreneurs with greater opportunities to connect with markets, investors, and partners at the regional and global levels.
