Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), extends congratulations and presents the "Product Champion" award to the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) for promoting local and functional Isan cuisine through nuclear technology. Meanwhile, the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) assures the strict standard of safety and worry-free irradiated food.
Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) organized an award ceremony “Product Champion 2025” to outstanding for Local Food and functional Isan food products enhanced by Nuclear Technology from Chaiyaphum, Maha Sarakham, and Loei provinces. The initiative promotes the use of food irradiation technology to add value to local wisdom and raise food safety to international standards. MHESI Minister Ms. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, presided over the award ceremony on August 21, 2025, at the MHESI Headquarter. In addition, the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) also attended the event and held the exhibition in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety for consumer protection.
Ms. Sudawan stated that transferring irradiation technology to entrepreneurs for food business development is a key factor that can significantly add value to food products in each of regions. This technology is internationally recognized, highly safety, and it reduced the use of chemicals in food production. This event reflects the commitment of all sectors to collectively drive the regional economy while strengthening the country's soft power in food. She also congratulated all the awarded entrepreneurs who demonstrated creativity in developing new food recipes. By using modern and safe technology to enhance their business potential, they serve as a great example of blending innovation with local wisdom, which can effectively expand the country's food business.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thawatchai Onjun, Executive Director of TINT, stated that in 2025, the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT) has partnered with three Rajabhat Universities—Chaiyaphum, Maha Sarakham, and Loei—to promote the use of nuclear technology, specifically food irradiation, among local community enterprises, functional food producers, and SME entrepreneurs. Knowledge-sharing sessions on food irradiation were organized in each province, alongside the opening of applications for local and functional food products to compete in the “Product Champion” program. The selection process for all three provinces has now been completed, with the final results confirmed. Winners of the “Product Champion” Awards 2025 have been officially announced as follows:
- Chaiyaphum Province
Winner: Roasted Fish Snack
Runners-up: “Nam Prik Mam” (fermented pork chili paste),
Ready-to-eat Grilled Fermented Beef Sausage
- Maha Sarakham Province
Winner: “Pan-Sip” (stuffed crispy dumpling)
Runners-up: “Mae Boonlum” Fermented Fish Sauce for Spicy Salad,
“Chokdee” Thai BBQ Dipping Sauce
- Loei Province
Winner: “Khun Watchara” Sun-dried Banana
Runners-up: Spicy Isan Curry Powder,
Pumpkin-flavored Instant Herbal Rice Noodles
**Functional Food
Winner: “Zeorice” Instant Germinated Brown Rice Powder
Runners-up: Instant Germinated Brown Rice Porridge (Seaweed/Shiitake flavor),
“Sosiri” Ready-to-drink Germinated Brown Rice Powder
On this occasion, Dr. Rungreung Kitphati, Director General of the Department of Science Service, Acting Secretary General of the Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP), emphasized that food irradiation is a highly safe process that is recognized international standards. As the regulatory authority, OAP strictly oversees every stage of the process—including radiation procedures, leakage control, and the competency of radiation safety personnel—to ensure consumer confidence. He affirmed that irradiated food is “safe, nutritionally intact, and poses no health risk.” Unlike traditional pasteurization, Irradiation is a non-thermal process; consequently, the food to retain its original taste and quality. Additionally, it extends shelf life, reduces harmful pathogens, and minimizes the need for chemical preservatives—making it a cutting-edge solution that elevates the standards of Thai food on the global stage.

From 1st May 2025, all non-Thai nationals entering the Kingdom of Thailand must complete a TDAC online within 72 hours before arrival.
