Thailand Registers “Waritch Milk” as First GI-Certified Dairy Product on World Milk Day

Thailand’s Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has announced the registration of “Waritch Milk” from Waritchaphum District, Sakon Nakhon Province, as a new Geographical Indication (GI) product. The announcement coincides with World Milk Day on June 1 and marks a significant milestone as Waritch Milk becomes the first dairy product in Thailand to receive GI certification. The registration is expected to enhance the market value of the product and generate greater income for local dairy farmers.

According to the Department, Waritch Milk is produced by the Waritchaphum Dairy Cooperative, which consists of 86 member farmers and produces more than 16.8 million cartons annually. The cooperative benefits from a long-standing royal initiative that supports dairy farming development through funding, production technology, infrastructure, and human resource development. These efforts have enabled the community to establish a fully integrated dairy industry, ranging from raw milk production to the manufacturing of pasteurized milk, UHT milk, and animal feed.

Waritch Milk is made from 100 percent pure cow’s milk obtained from Holstein Friesian crossbred cattle raised in the fertile foothills and valleys of the Phu Phan mountain range. The area’s abundant water resources, favorable climate, and year-round availability of animal feed contribute to the milk’s distinctive qualities, including its creamy texture, naturally sweet flavor, pleasant aroma, and ivory-white appearance. The Department also highlighted the potential of the cooperative and its facilities to develop agritourism activities, creating additional economic opportunities for local communities while promoting Thailand’s GI products on a wider scale.

Thai Premium Agricultural Products Generate Over 334 Million Baht in Sales at THAIFEX 2026

The Department of Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce reported strong success from the “DIT Pavilion: Discover Thai Premium Fruit & Finest Rice” showcase at THAIFEX–ANUGA ASIA 2026. The event attracted significant interest from both domestic and international buyers, generating total sales of more than 334.64 million baht, exceeding the target of 300 million baht. The result reflects the growing global demand for Thailand’s premium agricultural products.

The exhibition featured agricultural entrepreneurs, farmers, and community enterprises presenting high-quality products to buyers from around the world. Sales included fresh and processed fruits worth over 221.82 million baht, premium rice valued at more than 109.37 million baht, and community-produced alcoholic beverages worth approximately 3.45 million baht. Organizers expect additional orders and business transactions to continue after the event.

The event also created new trade opportunities in the Japanese market. Importers showed interest in Thailand’s small-sized “super mini” durians, which are suitable for smaller households and align with Japanese consumer preferences. Discussions were held on developing convenient packaging formats to increase product value and meet market demand. The initiative is expected to support Thailand’s rising fruit production, strengthen export opportunities, and enhance the competitiveness of Thai agricultural products in international markets.

Thailand’s New Co-Payment Scheme Boosts Confidence Among Local Businesses

Thailand’s newly launched “Thais Help Thais Plus” co-payment scheme has generated positive sentiment among small business operators, who expect the initiative to stimulate consumer spending and support local economic activity.

On the program’s first day, participating shops and market vendors displayed signs identifying their enrollment, making it easier for customers to use the scheme. Many merchants reported preparing additional inventory in anticipation of increased demand and customer traffic.

Business owners believe the measure will help strengthen community-level spending, support small retailers, and improve cash circulation within local economies. Several vendors also expressed hope that the scheme will replicate the success of previous government stimulus programs that boosted domestic consumption and sales.

The “Thais Help Thais Plus” scheme is part of the Government’s broader efforts to encourage domestic spending, support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and sustain economic growth. For many local businesses, the initiative has brought renewed confidence and optimism for stronger sales in the months ahead.
