As part of Sip of Italy, the special event with Ajarn Tonk brought a unique and evocative experience to .th , where coffee became a tool for intuition, storytelling, and cultural connection.
Through the ancient practice of tasseography, Ajarn Tonk — also known as “The Precision Seer” — offered personalized readings based on coffee grounds, transforming what is often considered waste into a meaningful source of insight and interpretation.
Rooted in centuries-old traditions from the Middle East and Eastern Europe, coffee reading finds a surprising resonance with Thai spiritual practices, creating a dialogue between cultures through a shared sensitivity to symbols, energy, and ritual.
In the framework of “Italia Reloaded. Tradition, Aesthetics and Innovation between Taste and Memory”, this moment highlighted how coffee can go beyond taste, becoming a bridge between sustainability, creativity, and inner exploration.

📍As part of “A SIP of Italy”, a meaningful talk recently took place at .th , sharing a powerful story where coffee becomes a tool for environmental protection and social impact.
🇹🇭 During field visits in northern Thailand, in the province of Lampang, Fr. Bruno observed the deep consequences of intensive maize cultivation, from health risks linked to chemical use to deforestation and severe ecological imbalance affecting local communities.
🌱 In response, in 2012, a mission-driven initiative began: supporting the transition to perennial crops, teaching coffee roasting techniques, and building a fair direct trade system that allows farmers to receive equitable value for their work.
☕️ This journey led to the creation of Laudato Si Social Enterprise, founded by Italian missionaries working in the region since 2000, inspired by an integrated vision of sustainability rooted in care for our “common home”.
A story where coffee is not only a product, but a model of regeneration, dignity, and community empowerment.
☕️🇮🇹 A Sip of Italy is part of Italia Reloaded. Tradition, Aesthetics and Innovation between Taste and Memory, the multidisciplinary programme selected for Bangkok Italian Creativity Capital in the World 2026, exploring coffee through its cultural, social, and sensory dimensions.
