Nature-based Solution
Sugarcane the champion crop at carbon sequestration

Researchers from Southern Cross University and Plant stone Pty Ltd in Lismore NSW, have recently discovered that a process that occurs naturally in plants, especially grasses such as sugarcane, plays an important role in countering CO2 emissions and global warming.
This process is termed plant stone carbon and is also referred to as phytolith occluded carbon.
The research shows that plant stone carbon has been extracting 300 million tonnes of CO2 per year from the atmosphere and storing it securely in soil for thousands of years.

Branding through peace and partnership
A powerful tool for promoting social responsibility and creating a positive impact on society. Companies that prioritize peace and partnership in their branding strategies can enhance their reputation, attract customers, and differentiate themselves from their competitors.

One way that companies can brand through peace and partnership is by supporting initiatives that promote peace, stability, and social justice. For example, a company can partner with organizations that work to promote peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and human rights. By aligning their brand with these initiatives, companies can demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility and build trust with their stakeholders.

Another way that companies can brand through peace and partnership is by promoting inclusive and sustainable business practices. This includes adopting ethical sourcing and manufacturing practices, promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and investing in renewable energy and environmental sustainability. By prioritizing these practices, companies can create a positive impact on society while differentiating themselves from their competitors.

Companies can also brand through peace and partnership by engaging in partnerships with stakeholders, such as customers, employees, suppliers, and local communities. By involving these stakeholders in their branding efforts, companies can build long-term relationships and create a sense of shared ownership and responsibility.

In conclusion, branding through peace and partnership can be a powerful tool for promoting social responsibility and creating a positive impact on society. By supporting initiatives that promote peace, stability, and social justice, promoting inclusive and sustainable business practices, and engaging in partnerships with stakeholders, companies can build trust, enhance their reputation, and differentiate themselves from their competitors.

Waste to Value - Thailand สร้างมูลค่าจากผักตบชวา
Water hyacinth can be problematic in many countries. How this Thai entrepreneur turn a problem to sustainable solution:
Water hyacinth is a floating aquatic plant that is native to South America but has become an invasive species in many parts of the world. Water hyacinth grows rapidly and can quickly cover water bodies, including lakes, ponds, and rivers. This can have a number of negative impacts, including:

Ecological: The dense growth of water hyacinth can block sunlight from reaching other aquatic plants, which can prevent their growth and survival. This can reduce biodiversity in the affected water body and disrupt the food chain.

Economic: Water hyacinth can block waterways, making it difficult or impossible for boats and ships to navigate. This can have a negative impact on transportation, tourism, and fishing industries that rely on the affected water body.

Social: The presence of water hyacinth can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests, which can have negative impacts on public health.

Controlling water hyacinth can be challenging, as the plant can grow rapidly and spread easily. Some methods for controlling water hyacinth include physical removal, herbicides, biological control (using natural enemies of the plant), and cultural methods (such as using goats to graze on the plants). However, all methods have advantages and disadvantages and require careful consideration to avoid unintended environmental consequences.

Agroforestry can play an important role in soil carbon sequestration, which refers to the process of capturing and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide in soil organic matter. This is achieved through the growth of trees and other perennial plants, which can sequester carbon through photosynthesis and transfer it to the soil through their roots and leaf litter.

The amount of carbon that can be sequestered in soil through agroforestry depends on a range of factors, including the type and density of vegetation, soil type and fertility, and management practices such as the use of cover crops and the application of organic matter. However, studies have shown that agroforestry can increase soil carbon stocks by up to 30-40% compared to conventional agriculture.

In addition to sequestering carbon, agroforestry can also improve soil health and productivity by increasing soil organic matter, improving soil structure and fertility, and reducing erosion and nutrient loss. This can have important benefits for farmers, including improved crop yields and reduced input costs.

Overall, agroforestry represents a promising approach to addressing both environmental and agricultural challenges, and has the potential to play an important role in mitigating climate change while also improving livelihoods for farmers and rural communities.

Both Bonsucro and RSPO are sustainability certification programs that aim to promote sustainable production of agricultural commodities. Bonsucro focuses on sugarcane production, while RSPO focuses on palm oil production.

Both certification programs have criteria related to climate action, but Bonsucro places a greater emphasis on this issue. Bonsucro has a specific standard on Climate Change, which requires sugarcane producers to monitor and report greenhouse gas emissions, establish targets for reducing emissions, and implement measures to reduce emissions and increase carbon sequestration. Bonsucro also requires producers to assess the resilience of their operations to climate change and to develop plans to address climate-related risks and opportunities.

RSPO also has criteria related to climate action, but they are more limited in scope. The RSPO standard requires palm oil producers to monitor and report greenhouse gas emissions, establish targets for reducing emissions, and implement measures to reduce emissions and increase carbon sequestration. However, the RSPO standard does not have specific requirements related to assessing the resilience of operations to climate change or developing plans to address climate-related risks and opportunities.

In summary, while both Bonsucro and RSPO have criteria related to climate action, Bonsucro places a greater emphasis on this issue and has more specific requirements related to addressing climate change.

Thailand Blue Economy
Thailand has a vast coastline with access to both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, which gives it great potential for developing a blue economy. The blue economy refers to economic activities related to oceans, seas, and coastal areas, such as fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, and renewable energy.

Thailand has a well-developed fishing industry, and the government has implemented measures to promote sustainable fishing practices. The country also has a growing aquaculture industry, particularly in shrimp and fish farming, which has the potential to boost the country's food security and export earnings.

In addition to fisheries and aquaculture, Thailand has a thriving tourism industry that relies heavily on its coastal resources. The country's beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and marine biodiversity attract millions of visitors each year, generating significant revenue for the economy.

Thailand has also taken steps to promote renewable energy, including offshore wind power and wave energy, which have the potential to reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels and contribute to climate change mitigation.

Overall, Thailand's strategic location and rich coastal resources provide a strong foundation for the development of a blue economy. However, it is important for the country to continue to promote sustainable practices and address environmental challenges such as pollution and overfishing to ensure the long-term viability of its marine resources.
