So Heng Tai Mansion was constructed based on the principles of Chinese ancient palace architecture. It has been a part of Bangkok since the era of King Rama I (1782 A.D.). The mansion features several Chinese-style roofed structures. Above the main door is the name “So Heng Tai,” though locals commonly refer to it as “Baan Chao Sua Son.”

Lord Aphai Wanit, who arrived in Bangkok from China, is the ancestor of the So Heng Tai Family. In China, he served as the Governor of Sichuan Province, which is why the eng Lung (Chinese red lantern), symbolizing the governor’s status, has been displayed at the front since the mansion’s inception. During the reign of King Rama VI, this family adopted a new Thai family name, “Posayachinda.”

So Heng Tai Mansion has stood along the Chao Phraya River for 230 years and has been owned by seven different owners. Today, this Chinese mansion operates as a cafe, allowing visitors to enjoy its beauty while sipping on homemade drinks. The central area of the house has been transformed into a scuba diving pool.
