Drugs are a big problem
9 suspected drug traffickers were killed in a clash with Thai security forces in Chiang Rai, with authorities seizing about 272 kilograms of crystal m**hamphetamine.
The clash lasted about 10 minutes on Monday night after troops encountered a group of 15â17 suspected traffickers carrying modified sacks near Pang Mahan village. Authorities said the group opened fire when troops identified themselves, prompting the exchange of gunfire. No officers were reported injured.
A search of the area on Tuesday morning found nine bodies and 16 sacks containing crystal m**h, weighing about 17 kg each. The Pha Muang Force said it would continue to intensify efforts to prevent drugs from being smuggled across the border into Thailand.
