SEFOPE-DNEE held a declaration signing ceremony for 84 PALM workers, consisting of 70 men and 14 women, who will be working for the companies Madec, Teamworks, 4 Ways, Down to Earth, Top of the Crop, and Thomas Food.
As is customary, the declaration signing ceremony is a tradition that SEFOPE-DNEE always conducts before mobilizing workers for overseas employment. The ceremony was attended by the representative of the State Secretary of SEFOPE, Chief of Staff Mr. Jacinto Ribeiro Dias, Director of DNEE Mr. João Correia Pereira, and a delegation that included the representative of the Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy, Mr. Declan, as well as the Senior Manager of PLMSP.
In his speech, the Chief of Staff stated that His Excellency the State Secretary conveyed appreciation and a message that was highly valuable and highly relevant to all participants:
"On behalf of SEFOPE, I wish to express my appreciation to the Australian Government for its strong cooperation with Timor-Leste in making this program possible. It is a great endeavor that we carry out together in this program, particularly in helping Timorese people become economic heroes for their nation. My important message to the new workers is to follow the example of the returning workers, strictly abide by the declarations you have made with the Government, and work diligently. Because when you fulfill your declarations and perform well, you will gain the trust of employers to continue offering you contracts, just like other re-entry workers. The key to achieving success in this program is that you must have sufficient ability, a good mindset, commitment to change, and demonstrate good behavior.
To the returning workers, we ask you to maintain and further improve your existing performance, so that you can pave a wider path for other Timorese who have not yet had the same opportunity as you. To the families, we deeply appreciate all the support you have given to your children, siblings, and relatives who are taking part in this program. We are aware that you will face many challenges, but we ask you to remain resilient, support each other mentally and physically, and create healthy communication and relationships so that you can achieve success and happiness together in the future."
Meanwhile, the representative of the Australian Government also said:
"The PALM program is a very complex initiative, as it involves many people. Therefore, I extend my congratulations to SEFOPE and to all parties who have worked hard to make this program possible. Australia and Timor-Leste have a long history with this program, dating back to 2012 until the present. This period reflects the commitment of Timor-Leste and Australia to mutually develop the economies of both nations through the labor mobility program. We are aware that taking part in this program is not easy; it is highly competitive and involves a lengthy process. Hence, congratulations as well to the workers who have been selected by the employers."
The representative also went on to encourage the workers to learn and also share Timor-Leste's beautiful culture while in Australia, and particularly to create an investment plan for the future. So that all the resources they earn can be sustainable for the long term, in case they are no longer able to return to Australia.
Congratulations to all the workers!!
