Goodbye TOMAK! Growing Resilience Through Agriculture! As we wrap up TOMAK this month after 10 years, we say a heartfelt thank you to all who worked with towards its vision of a healthier, more productive and resilient rural population in Timor-Leste.
TOMAK’s greatest legacy is the confidence and capability it leaves behind - people, communities and institutions equipped to continue building a food system that is resilient, inclusive, and locally led.
🌱Overtime, the tiny seed that was planted begins to bear fruit.
💫What was learned is put into practice
🥬Rural families are healthier
🍠What is produced finds its way to markets
🤝Resilient farmers are working together
🌈Opportunities open, where once they felt out of reach
💚The food system is whole. And no one is left behind

From shared costs to steady income
A Portrait of Progress
Maun João is a Field Agent from Laisorolai de Baixo, . He is among the 13 youth from Baucau who received cost-shared agricultural inputs from TOMAK. Along with his wife Mana Veronica, they have supported their community by processing rice using the rice milling machine he received. Now that there are two rice milling machines in the community (the other owned by another community member), farmers don't have to wait so long to mill their harvested paddy into rice, and if one breaks down, there is a back up.
Through this activity, Maun João and Mana Veronica are also earning a good income, which is very helpful for supporting their family. Their business is steadily growing too, “we are slowly but surely building our client base, increasing our number of permanent customers to 15 with around 25 occasional customers now.”
