DENGUE FEVER OUTBREAK UPDATE
The Ministry of Health has officially declared a Dengue Fever outbreak as of 12 June 2026 
Current Situation:
• 70 confirmed cases with 1 new cases.
• 1 cases currently hospitalized
• Most affected: ages 11–19 years
• No deaths reported

This month, Mrs Carolyn and a team from St John of God Ballarat Hospital were in Tonga to continue their up skilling of staff in the Ministry. The workshop conducted in the Ministry was facilitated together with Mr Salesi Panipooi.
The team was also able to visit Niueiki Hospital and other other staff in Vaiola Hospital to continue discussions on areas they can provide assistance.
Thank you Australia in Tonga for the assistance and empowering our staff to provide quality service to our community.

PUBLIC NOTICE – TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF EMERGENCY AND OUTPATIENT SERVICES
The Ministry of Health wishes to inform the public that due to ongoing maintenance and renovation works at Vaiola Hospital, temporary changes will be made to Emergency and Outpatient services.
The General Outpatient Department (GOPD) is currently operating from a temporary tent located in the Vaiola Hospital car park facing Taufa’ahau Road. Working hours is from 8am to 8pm.
The Emergency Department (ED) will be temporarily relocated to the GOPD building starting Monday. Access will be from the main entrance opposite the Taufa'ahau Road. Working 24 hours 7 days a week.
These temporary arrangements are expected to remain in place for approximately one week while renovation works are completed.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate the public’s understanding and cooperation during this period.

Strengthening Health Partnerships for a Healthier Tonga 🇹🇴🤝🇨🇳
This afternoon, the Ministry of Health Tonga and GX Foundation People’s Republic of China officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Administration Building Conference Room.
The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Mr. Chun Ying Leung Chairman of GX Foundation and Hon. Dr. Siaosi Sovaleni Minister of Health and Minister for Public Enterprises, Ambassador Liu Weimin and other distinguished guests. The MOU was formally signed by CEO Emily Chan Ying-Yang of GX Foundation and CEO Reynold ’Ofanoa of the Ministry of Health.
This partnership marks an important step in strengthening cooperation and advancing healthcare services for the people of Tonga. We extend our sincere appreciation to all participants and partners whose commitment continues to support the health and well-being of our nation.
