Estonian Embassy in Ankara

On 13 May, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Mr Rasmus Lumi opened Estonia's new Honorary Consulate in Izmir. This event marks an important step in strengthening economic and cultural ties between Estonia and the Izmir region of Türkiye. The Honorary Consul of Estonia in Izmir is Daniel Lochner.

Now, Estonia has a wide network of Honorary Consuls in Türkiye which in addition to Izmir also covers Istanbul, Bursa, Antalya and Mersin. Honorary Consuls of Estonia were present to celebrate the inauguration of Daniel Lockner and to discuss further cooperation between Estonia and Türkiye.

When visiting Izmir, we also met with the Mayor of Izmir Mr Dr Cemil Tugay, the Deputy Governor Mr Nusret Şahin and the Representative of the MFA Türkiye in Izmir Ambassador Yeşim Kebapcıoğlu. Thank you all for a warm welcome.

🇪🇪 Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur paid a visit to SAHA Expo in Istanbul on 6-7 May. He had bilateral meetings with 🇹🇷 Defence Minister Yaşar Güler and with leading Turkish defence industry companies Aselsan, Roketsan, Baykar, Nurol Makina and Otokar. During the visit, an agreement was signed with Arca Baltics Operations to launch 155 mm artillery ammunition production in Estonia. The total investment amounts to approximately €300 million creating up to 1000 jobs in the region with production planned to start in 2028.

We had a good meeting in Istanbul with the 🇪🇪 Estonian Minister of Education Kristina Kallas and her team participating at the OECD Skills Summit. Estonia is scoring well in education and we are proud to share our experience with other countries.

We also met with representatives of Estonian ITS cluster - companies and universities visiting the Intelligent Transport System Europe Congress in Istanbul. In the framework of JASMEX (Joint Acceleration of Smart City and Sustainable Mobility SME Export to Third Countries) project, ITS Estonia 🇪🇪 plans to launch activities in 🇹🇷 jointly with 🇫🇮 and 🇸🇪. On 2 April, the EU Ambassador-Designate to Türkiye Aivo Orav and his spouse Ms Mare Orav were warmly welcomed by the European 🇪🇺 community in Ankara at a reception given by the Estonian 🇪🇪 Ambassador Väino Reinart and his spouse Ms Kaire Jürgenson.

Ambassador Aivo Orav is an Estonian 🇪🇪 diplomat with over 30 years of national and EU experience in diplomacy. He served as Estonian Ambassador to 🇹🇷 from 2008 to 2012.

We had a wonderful concert with Anu Tali 🇪🇪 conducting the Presidential Symphony Orchestra 🇹🇷 and with Ksenija Sidorova 🇱🇻 on the accordion performing the musical piece “Dances” of the Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits dedicated to her.

Deputy Minister Ambassador Levent Gümrükçü met with the Security Policy Directors of the Baltic states, who are in Türkiye for political-military consultations.

During the meeting, regional developments and the items on the agenda of the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara this year were addressed.
