Candid exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East with Bahrain Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, Jordan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Kuwait Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah and Oman Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

The ongoing conflict has affected several countries in the region, heightening tensions, undermining stability and putting civilians at risk. Singapore stands in solidarity with our partners in the Gulf and their peoples during this challenging time.

I thanked my counterparts for the assistance extended by their authorities in facilitating the departure of Singaporeans during this period. Our officials remain in close contact to ensure the safety and well-being of Singaporeans who remain in their countries.

A prolonged conflict would have wider repercussions on global security, energy markets and international trade, with implications beyond the region, including for Singapore.

Singapore was one of the co-sponsors of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution on Iran’s attacks on the Gulf Cooperation Council countries that the UNSC adopted on 11 March. We support the efforts of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and other Gulf partners to restore peace and stability as soon as possible.

I spoke with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan earlier today about the escalating situation in the Middle East.

I thanked His Highness and the UAE authorities for their support and assistance to Singaporeans residing in the UAE. Our officials have been working closely together to ensure Singaporeans remain safe, and to facilitate arrangements for those who wish to return home.

A protracted conflict in the Middle East will have serious consequences for the world. We hope that all parties will find ways to de-escalate and restore stability to the region.

Singapore values our close friendship with the UAE, and stands in solidarity with the UAE and its people during this challenging time.

Singapore endorses the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Statement on the Situation in the Middle East.

The outbreak of conflict in the Middle East is deeply concerning. I have been in close contact with my counterparts in the Gulf states to convey our solidarity. The escalatory attacks on non-combatant states, including those targeted at civilian and energy infrastructure, are unacceptable. I also expressed Singapore’s deep appreciation to the Gulf states for their efforts to ensure the safety of Singaporeans.

The welfare of our people remains a priority, and our Overseas Missions are focused on providing consular assistance to Singaporeans in the region. We are doing our best to get Singaporeans to safety under these volatile circumstances.

The Embassy had the honour to join Yapay Zeka Politikaları Derneği - AIPA for the second AI Diplomacy Meeting on 13 December.

Ambassador Kok Li Peng spoke about Singapore's AI philosophy and strategy, in the context of Singapore's Smart Nation journey.

Fuelled by a generous Turkish breakfast, AIPA members and Ambassador Kok engaged in a lively discussion, including opportunities for Singapore and Türkiye to collaborate in fields such as fintech, healthcare, and education.

The Embassy thanks AIPA Chairman Zafer Küçükşabanoğlu and his team for bringing us together, and there is more that we can do together.
