PM PUTS CHILDREN FIRST

Free flights for Children’s Life Fund beneficiaries travelling overseas for surgery

WIN TT MAGAZINE | HEALTH & FAMILY SUPPORT

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced that Caribbean Airlines will provide free air travel for children receiving assistance through the Children’s Life Fund to undergo life-saving surgery overseas. One accompanying parent or guardian will also receive a free seat.

Announced during her contribution to the 2027 Budget debate on October 19, 2026, the initiative supports children who must travel abroad to access specialised care unavailable in Trinidad and Tobago.

The measure builds on a commitment dating back to 2010, when the Children’s Life Fund was established under Persad-Bissessar’s earlier administration. Hundreds of children have benefited since its introduction.

For families facing a child’s serious illness, arranging treatment abroad can be overwhelming. The support recognises both the need to reach medical care and the importance of having a parent or guardian beside the child throughout that experience.

The Prime Minister thanked Caribbean Airlines and Senator the Honourable Eli Zakour, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, for helping facilitate the initiative, supporting eligible children and their families when they need it most.

🇹🇹 CONGRATULATIONS ON 39 YEARS OF LAW, LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE

WIN TT Magazine warmly congratulates the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar, SC, MP and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, as October 2026 marks 39 years since her call to the Bar, and 39 years of service to our nation.

This photograph captures a defining moment: a young attorney entering the profession that would help shape her path from the courtroom to the highest office in the country.

Across that journey, she has left her mark on law, public service and national leadership. Her example has widened the horizons of women and girls who see in her achievements the possibility of pursuing their own ambitions.

Congratulations, Madam Prime Minister. We honour your dedication to Trinidad and Tobago and your continuing contribution to the country’s future.

WIN TT MAGAZINE | NATIONAL SECURITY

5,802 ARRESTED, 3,552 (61.2%) CHARGED DURING THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL SIX-MONTH SoE PERIOD. PRIMARY THREAT REDUCED, CRIME DOWN ACROSS ALL POLICE DIVISIONS.

Statement by the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, SC, MP

The State of Emergency is coming to the end of its authorised period. The factual numbers tell the truth: the wider actions of the SoE resulted in crime decreasing across all police divisions.

Over the last three decades, our country went from a place of peace to a lawless dump because some citizens believe that there are no consequences for bad behaviour. This occurred because of a two-tiered justice system where the average citizen was subjected to the heavy hand of the law, while the eat-a-food fake elite and politically connected received special privileges and treatment.

I am working to bring those days to an end. Everyone must now bear personal responsibility for their individual behaviour.

My Government is working with foreign law enforcement authorities and local law enforcement to ensure that the local drug mafia and those who believe they are untouchable because of their ill-gotten wealth will be prosecuted in the same manner as any other citizen. The filthy, greedy Westmoorings, St Clair and Federation Park gangs who flood our country with illegal drugs and fi****ms that kill our children will be treated the same as any other gangs from Siparia, Arima or Laventille.

Criminals, their supporters and their families must understand that if they continue terrorising law-abiding citizens, my Government will continue to take harsh and brutal measures against them. Negotiating with or placating criminals only emboldens them to continue their criminal activities.

Despite the end of the SoE, I remind you all that the cells at Teteron and MSP await you if your criminal behaviour continues.

In the interest of transparency and accountability, I have taken the decision, on the advice of the Attorney General, to declassify and release a report provided to me showing the results of the wider actions pursued by the protective services to reduce crime and criminality. These wider actions were carried out simultaneously during the SoE period while the main threat was being addressed.

I thank the Attorney General, the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Homeland Security, the Minister of Justice, the Commissioner of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Acting Commissioner of Prisons, the Director of the SSA and all the brave men and women of our protective services who work long hours to protect this country.

I also thank the law-abiding citizens who supported lawful operations, provided information, endured inconvenience and continued to believe that Trinidad and Tobago can be safer.

The operational results I report today are those recorded as at Day 191. Please read and share the report.

Have a wonderful day, Trinidad and Tobago. 💛💛
