At Bajnath’s Estate Hummingbird Sanctuary we believe that love for nature makes a big impact when stirred at a young age.
It was a joy welcoming St Andrew’s E.C.C.E.C as they start their hummingbird program geared towards attracting and appreciating these gems!

By day the hummingbirds steal the show. But when the sun goes down the nightshift nectar workers appear. This Pink-spotted Hawkmoth was seen enjoying the nectar from the Combretum indicum vine also known as Rangoon creeper.
But check out the length of that proboscis. Very impressive! I don’t think any nectar source is out of reach when you have tools like that.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to and continues to support our journey we couldn’t do this without you 💚
Nesting season has begun, so keep an eye out for nest in your garden and on forest walks.
Until we see you again, enjoy this beautiful male Silver-beaked Tanager ☺️

Chances are those white facial stripes help to disguise their forms, rendering this family of Common Tent-making Bats (Uroderma bilobatum), virtually invisible to would-be predators peering up from below. Tent bats modify the leaves of some canopy and understorey trees including palms, heliconias and anthuriums, by biting along their midribs, forcing each side of the frond or leaf to partially collapse into a "tent" where the bats roost during the daylight hours. Common Tent-making Bats weigh between 13 - 20 grams (0.4 - 0.7 oz), and perform very important seed-dispersal services in the forests of Trinidad. Primarily fruit eating, these bats disperse the seeds of forest figs (Ficus spp.), Philodendron fruits, Guava, Jumbie Candle (Piper spp.), and Bois Canot (Cecropia peltata), supplementing their diet with pollen, nectar, and insects. This group, likely a male and 2 females, was photographed at Bajnath's Estate Hummingbird Sanctuary, located in the Matura National Park, Trinidad. Photo: Josh Bajnath
