Milton Nascimento sings "Beco do Mota", which he composed together with Fernando Brandt, a song that speaks about the demolition of an alley that was in front of the cathedral of Diamantina, a colonial city in the state of Minas Gerais. The demolition was one of the first "moralizing" acts of the military dictatorship installed in Brazil in 1964, which scattered the alley's population throughout the city. "They destroyed the alley but no one will live there / Full of memories, the people of the deep dark alley / came to dissolve in this clearly lit square... / Empty, desert procession / Men and women at night in my country/ at the alley's door we are standing / Empty, desert procession / at the doors of the archdiocese of my country".
