Important Notice: Unauthorized Activity at Matura Turtle Nesting Site

We are deeply disheartened by a serious breach of protocol that occurred this weekend involving an individual falsely claiming to be an authorized turtle tour guide. Such incidents not only jeopardize the safety of our nesting turtles but also undermine decades of dedicated conservation work.

Please remember: only guides with formal written authorization from both the Forestry Division and EMA can conduct tours on protected nesting sites. A visitor permit is not enough.

We sincerely thank all visitors and tour operators who follow protocol and support our mission to protect this critical nesting site and all others.

Conservation thrives on vigilance, respect, and shared accountability!

The Legacy of Richard Laydoo

The "Coral Reefs of Trinidad and Tobago” book is dedicated to Mr. Richard Laydoo, the first coral reef researcher at the Institute of Marine Affairs.

His book, “A Guide to the Coral Reefs of Tobago,” written in 1991, introduced the public to Tobago’s reefs and laid the foundation for this new edition.

In his honour, “Coral Reefs of Trinidad and Tobago” builds on that legacy with the latest findings, reef imagery and conservation updates.

Learn more about Mr. Richard Laydoo in our upcoming book, “Coral Reefs of Trinidad and Tobago.”

Launch Date: June 10, 2025

Thanks to our sponsor, Shell Trinidad and Tobago, for making this possible.
