The following are the fines proclaimed by the office of the President for various offences under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act: Chapter 48: 50
1. Driving under the influence of Alcohol:
1st offense- $12,000.00
2nd offense- $22, 500.00
2. Driving or being in charge of a vehicle while blood alcohol levels exceed prescribed limit.
1st conviction- $12000.00
2nd conviction- 22,500.00
3. Failure to provide a breath specimen- $12000.00
4. Failure to submit to a breath test
1st conviction $15,000.00
2nd conviction- 22, 500.0
5. Refusal to provide specimen
1st conviction $15,000.00
2nd conviction- 22, 500.00
6. Fraudulent imitation of documents- $3000.00
7. Exceeding the speed limit- $6000.00
8. Driving without a permit-$ 750.00 and $1500.00
9. Driving without insurance -$ 7,500.00
10. Forgery of Certificates - $6000.00

MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT HOSTS IRF CONGRESS
The Ministry of Transport was host to over 200 delegates attending the 3rd Regional Congress of the International Road Federation (IRF) which was held in Trinidad between May 5th – 9th, 2014.
The Congress brought together regional and local stakeholders form government ,academia ,multi –lateral banks ,civil society and the private sector to help find common solutions to the region’s transportation challenges.
Some of the areas covered at the workshops and at the congress sessions included road safety, infrastructure asset management, urban development and mobility and funding for transport infrastructure.
The Congress was endorsed by the Caribbean Development Bank, the Inter –American Development Bank and the Global Road Safety Facility of the World Bank.
In welcoming the delegates to Trinidad and Tobago Transport Minister Hon. Stephen Cadiz noted that the deliberations will serve as a vehicle to assist the small developing states of the region to employ the best methodologies and technology to make roads safer and thereby save lives.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
CHANGE IN SAILING – Saturday 03 May, 2014
Trinidad and Tobago Inter-Island Transportation Co. Ltd wishes to advise the public of the change in sailing of the T&T Express on Saturday 03 May, 2014. The vessel will sail from Scarborough at 3.00 pm instead of 4.00 pm as previously scheduled. This change is necessary to facilitate the arrangements in Scarborough for the funeral of former President and Prime Minister, A.N.R Robinson.
As a result of the above changes, the checking process will commence at 11.00 am and end at 2.30 pm.
Vehicle access to the Port of Scarborough will be as follows:
1) Vehicles are required to turn off Claude Noel Highway, Turn South into Bacolet Connector Road to Traffic Lights on Bacolet/ Main Street Junction.
2) Turn Right on to Main Street.
3) Turn West along Main Street.
4) Turn Left on to Castries Street.
5) Turn South, then north along Castries Street into Carrington Street.
6) Immediate turn left on to Customs Street.
7) Turn South, then North along Customs Street.
8) Turn Left via Gate into Port Compound.
Passengers are required to comply with the aforementioned arrangements to ensure a smooth flow of operations on Saturday 03 May, 2014.
