Rennie's Orphanage and Animal Rescue -ROAR A wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation that collaborates with rural communities to do wild

Rennie’s Orphanage & Animal Rescue (ROAR) is a non-governmental organization, started by a young man whose mission is to educate our nation of Trinidad and Tobago on the benefits of having our specific ecosystem and the delicate balance of the interactions between the community members. ROAR seeks to effectively manage the rehabilitation, repopulation and rescue of our wild animals. In 2022, we launched a primate rehabilitation programme focused on Howler and Capuchin monkey with the aim of reintroduction in the wild. ROAR also provides a “forever home” / sanctuary for animals that are so severely damaged that they are usually euthanized, which is a safe environment that would be stimulating and rewarding as they adjust and recover from the damages caused by anthropogenic factors. An integral part of work is environmental education to bring awareness to local biodiversity and the threats they face such as illegal pet trade, overhunting, habitat loss and climate change. We also work with farmers, hunters, government agencies and home owner to reduce human animal conflict while promoting sustainable development. ROAR operates from 323A San Pedro Road Rio Claro, and is the only sanctuary in the South East of the island of Trinidad. Having officially opened our doors on Sunday 1st June, 2014 we are working to provide the animals in our charge with the best possible captive experience. If you are willing help us, please feel free to donate at any Republic Bank Limited account number 660801274401 or contact us directly at 1-868-717-8818.

Yes snakes get ticks... our resident red tailed boa got an infestation of three species of ticks and because of her size, we had to wait for reinforcements to handle her. Today we removed approximately 242 ticks from her body. She was then treated with a soak and then allowed to rest.

Wildlife rescue is dynamic. Everyday is different. We are extremely blessed to interact with such amazing species.

Please note it is illegal to kill 66 of the 70 species of snakes on private property and illegal to kill all 70 species on state lands. So if you are hiking and encounter any snake, please leave the snakes alone.

Meet Olooka, the barn owllete. Now learning to fly and hunt, she was found at the side of the roadway in Penal. She has some damage to the side of her face and wing, most likely from colliding with a car. While on the way to get her, we also saw a juveniles guaniulle also hit by a car, but it was already dead.

It's fledgling season, so just be mindful that not all birds down on the ground on the roadway may have the ability to fly off... slow down and allow them time to move

Education is core part of wildlife rehab, not just the general public, but scientific minds. Our Managing Director, Dr. Hamilton, is seen here, educating a group of future zoologists from the University of the Southern Caribbean on different types of behaviors, and the anatomical structures that are usually associated with them.
