Little caps, big dreams 🎓🤍

Since April 2021, we’ve been supporting this wonderful girl and her two sisters from incredibly difficult home circumstances. To see her graduate from primary school on Friday was a milestone that means more than words can say…
•
Behind this moment is a journey of resilience, and a community of people who have cared for her, believed in her, and helped her reach this point. Seeing her celebrate surrounded by those who love her is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a child has people in their corner. 🥹
•
We couldn’t be prouder of how far she has come. Here’s to the next chapter! ✨🙌🏾

International Day of the Girl Child • 11.10.26 •

Every girl deserves the opportunity to learn, to feel safe, to discover her potential and to dream about her future…

Yet, for many girls, barriers such as poverty, inequality and limited access to education can make these opportunities harder to reach…

At Hope and Soul, we believe every girl matters. We are committed to supporting children, young people and families through education, holistic care and community support, helping to create opportunities for girls to grow in confidence, develop their abilities and build brighter futures 🩷💕

This time last week we asked for your support to fund an MRI for our Sweetie (nickname) who has been suffering from undiagnosed seizures…
•
You went over and above our request and today our girl successfully went for her scan 🥹🙏🏽
•
We have to wait 48 hours for the results but she has already been started on medication and her response when I asked what she did at the hospital today was ‘I got an injection!’ 😂🥰
•
Thank you so much to everyone that donated and for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers too. I also pass on huge gratitude from her mama. The funds that are remaining will be used to purchase further medication and if we discover she needs to be on medication for a longer period of time we will use the donations to secure health insurance for her 🫶🏾

This £5 Friday is about a very little, but very ‘sweet’ member of Hope and Soul Daycare…

Sweetie (nickname) is a Hope and Soul Daycare OG! She has grown with us since we opened in August 2024 and we couldn’t imagine daycare without her. She is such a character and loved by all who meet her 🥹
•
Although Sweetie loves being at daycare, is incredibly bright and a true example of how our support can change a families life, she has also been experiencing seizures which, over the last couple of months, have become increasingly frequent 😔
•
This morning, we supported her mama to take her to see a paediatric doctor here in town. After assessing her, the doctor has said that she now needs a head MRI to help understand what is causing the seizures…
•
Medical care here is not free, and even with insurance, investigations such as an MRI are often not covered. We want to make sure Sweetie can have the scan she needs without her family having to face the cost alone. That’s why we need your help on this £5 Friday❤️
•
The MRI cost is £235 which we know is a lot of money. However, we believe in the power of our £5 Friday appeals and our supporters have never let us down 🥰
•
If you can give today, to replace something you might usually indulge in for £5 on a Friday then this would be a really incredible life changing cause, worth while!

We need to stop romanticising resilience…
•
I recently read a post by 54 Magazine that really stayed with me, particularly their reflection on how easily we can admire people for surviving circumstances we could never cope with ourselves…
•
This is one of our daycare mamas. She is due to give birth this week, while her twin boys, who attend our Hope and Soul daycare are turning three..
•
She is a beautiful mother, deeply loving and incredibly strong…

But she is also a pregnant woman without a bed…

This photograph was taken inside her mud-and-stick built dwelling, the place she calls home, where her and her boys sleep on the floor…
•
Her resilience is remarkable. But it should never make us comfortable with the circumstances that require it.

A mother being strong enough to sleep on a floor does not make a bed unnecessary.

And this is why, as a charity, we don’t want to simply arrive, photograph and leave…

We know this family. We are here with her. And today, we have had the incredible opportunity and honour to respond to this need with the assistance of the twins’ sponsors…

What a way to begin our graduation season 🎓✨

On Friday we celebrated an incredible achievement and an incredible young girl…
•
This year has brought big changes, challenges and a new chapter, but she has continued to show such strength, determination and resilience. After moving to a new school, she didn’t simply settle in - she absolutely flourished, finishing her final school examinations as the 3rd highest-performing student in her entire year group! 🥹👏🏽
•
It was especially special to have Jenipha, our Social Worker, and Chaz, our Counsellor, there to celebrate with her. They have both been such a huge support to her throughout this season, and it was beautiful to see them share in this moment with her…
•
We are incredibly proud of how far she has come. What a journey, what an achievement, and what an exciting new chapter ahead 🎓✨
•
Keep shining precious girl. We are so proud of you 💕

Celebrating our daycare mamas!
•
Earlier this year, we invited our daycare parents and carers to help us with an hour of cleaning each week. Five hardworking mamas volunteered, giving their time alongside their own busy working lives to help care for their children’s daycare…
•
Last week, we wanted to say a special thank you and recognise their commitment, so Rose, our daycare manager, presented each of them with a little gift 🥰
•
It’s a small way of saying we see you, we appreciate you, and we are so grateful for your help! ❤️
•
And we loved seeing some of the little ones proudly showing off their mamas gifts too! 🧼😌

A Facebook memory popped up last week reminding me that it’s now 13 years since I first met this very little boy ❤️
•
I had absolutely no idea then just how much that meeting would change the direction of my life. J was one of the first children I met on my very first trip to Tanzania, and getting to know him and the many people and experiences that followed completely changed the way I saw life and what I wanted to do with mine…
•
And look at him now 🥹
•
J is more than halfway through his first year of secondary school. He’s bright, humble, kind and has grown into such a lovely young man. He might not be quite as street-smart as we would like when it comes to surviving boarding school 😂, but thankfully he has his best friend and fellow orphanage brother alongside him to help him navigate that part!
•
What makes this photo even more special is knowing that J’s story is now just one of many. That first trip eventually led to the start of Hope and Soul in 2018, and now supporting J and more than 107 other children through education, family support, health, safety and opportunity…
•
What started with one little boy and one life-changing experience has grown into an incredible Tanzanian and UK team working alongside children, families, schools and communities…
•
13 years down and so much more still to come 🥹🙌🏾
