tanzania and believe that real impact grows through partnership. Together, we can do more for communities, for resilience, and for the future we want to build.

In 2024, Climate Action Network Tanzania trained about 18 journalists to report on climate issues effectively, building on ongoing efforts that began in 2019 and continued in 2021.

These journalists have continued collaborating with CAN Tanzania and other climate actors to tell powerful, community-driven climate stories. This week, as we are in the field in Pangani and Lushoto, we are witnessing the impact of this intervention through .5 and .3mhz

This is important because media shapes narratives, raises awareness, amplifies local voices, and holds leaders accountable. Strong climate journalism helps communities understand risks, share solutions, and demand action.

Stay in touch with us, as we will build on this momentum this year.
Our plan is to bring more journalists on board to effectively advocate for climate action. And for us, it remains a priority.

On Day 2 of training Local Government Officials on Decentralized Climate Finance for NbS investments, our Executive Director, Dr. Sixbert Mwanga led a session on Climate Finance & Policy Landscape.

Key highlights:
📌 If climate change hasn’t touched your family yet… it has touched someone close to you.
📌 Scientific projections show impacts may hit even harder next year.

For LGAs in Tanzania, the reality is already here:
🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 155 lives lost in 2024 floods
🏘️ Over 51,000 households affected
🍛 Rising food insecurity
🏦 Slowing local economies
🤰 Disrupted infrastructure & maternity services

But there’s direction forward, from priorities identified in Pillar 3 on Environmental Integrity and Climate Change Resilience to NAP (2025–2035), NCCRS, and NDC 3.0 in progress, real impact happens only when policies reach the ground.

That’s why
📌 Integrating climate aspects into 5-year district development plans is critical
📌Prioritizing climate finance in district budgets is non-negotiable
📌Collaboration with PO-LARG, VPO, sector ministries, NGOs, the private sector, and Development partners is a must.
📌Skills in Research, Monitoring & Evaluation should be enhanced at the local level.

Climate finance at the LGA level isn’t policy talk; it’s about food security, economic stability, and saving lives.

Through the implementation of the RESOLVE-NbS Project, Climate Action Network Tanzania .tanzania is empowering officials in Kilolo, Iringa, Ifakara, Mlimba, and Morogoro Districts to access Decentralized Climate Finance (DCF). This initiative shifts funding power to the local level, allowing districts to directly manage resources that protect vital sectors like agriculture and forestry from intensifying climate risks.
For 3 days, starting from 16th March 2026, leaders from the 5 districts are aligning district budgets with Nature-based Solutions (NbS) through a practical, participatory approach. The creation of bankable project concepts and local action plans allows the LGAs to turn national climate goals into resilient, community-led realities.
This project is implemented in partnership with IUCN ,WWF , Care International , CEO Roundtable and EAMCEF

True resilience starts at the grassroots, putting resources directly into the hands of the people.

At the Post-COP30 forum, Dr. Mwanga emphasized the need for developing countries to prioritize climate adaptation over mitigation to protect local communities, which are already facing the impacts of climate change.

The focus must shift from high-level policy to ensuring climate finance and green technology bypass bureaucratic hurdles to reach the affected communities.
