CDC Tanzania works with Tanzania's Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children and more than 40 partner organizations to address HIV, TB, malaria, and other health threats. Since 2001, CDC Tanzania has provided technical and financial assistance to support service delivery and strengthen health systems, workforce capacity, emergency response management, and develop and use strategic information.

CDC works closely with the Government of Tanzania and partners to end malaria. Our efforts include providing treated nets, indoor spraying, strengthening laboratories, and improving diagnostics and case management. CDC contributed to malaria control efforts in Tanzania, with malaria incidence decreasing by 65% from 2000 to 2022.

Last week, CDC Tanzania, led by Dr. Mahesh Swaminathan joined Africa CDC’s Regional Meeting to advance the African public health agenda. The meeting brought together public health professionals, policymakers, development partners, and government officials from East African countries to discuss progress and current challenges while developing a roadmap for establishing and strengthening National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs). The establishment of NPHIs will enhance disease surveillance systems, streamline essential public health functions, serve as a hub for emergency management, and improve health security across Africa.
