Major General Henry Matsiko, the UPDF Political Commissar, has urged Madi Okollo district to focus on improving household incomes through government livelihood programs such as Emyooga, Parish Development Model (PDM), Youth Livelihood Program (YLP), and Uganda Women Empowerment Project (UWEP). This call was made during his visit to Madi Okollo district on April 9, 2025, where he emphasized the importance of utilizing these programs to empower the community and address poverty.
The district has received significant funding for these initiatives, including :
- 1.1 billion shillings for Emyooga
- 11 billion shillings for Parish Revolving Fund under PDM
- 900 million shillings for UWEP
- 500 million shillings for YLP
Madi Okollo district faces several challenges, including:
- *Infrastructure Development*: Poor road network and lack of primary and secondary schools in some areas
- *Healthcare*: No district hospital, limited health facilities, and only one HCIV
- *Security*: Influx of Balalus and their cattle causing crop destruction
To address these issues, the district is requesting government support for:
- Establishing a district hospital and HCIVs
- Improving road infrastructure
- Building schools in underserved areas
- Implementing the Presidential Order on the Balalus to mitigate their impact on local communities
The UPDF's efforts to restore peace in neighboring countries, such as DR Congo, South Sudan, and Somalia, are also seen as crucial in preventing refugee influx and promoting regional stability.

Eric Arumadri, the District Water Officer of Madi Okollo District, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 37, and was laid to rest on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ewamva cell in Arua City. According to postmortem result, Eric died of bleeding peptic ulcers.
He joined the Madi Okollo District Local Government in June 2022 as the Water Officer and was also the acting District Water Officer.
Career and Achievements
Arumadri worked with various organizations, including Water Mission, Acode, Madi and West Nile diocese, and Tombura diocese in South Sudan. He delivered several key projects in Madi Okollo District, such as:
- *Feacal Treatment Sludge Plant*: In Rigbo sub-county.
- *Kati Piped Water Scheme*: Providing clean water to the community.
- *Rhino Camp Piped Water Scheme*: Another project aimed at improving water access.
- *Nyagak Water Scheme*: Focused on enhancing water coverage in the district.
Tributes and Recognition
During his final send-off, Arumadri was remembered for his exceptional qualities, including being developmental, open-minded, hardworking, God-fearing, and committed. The District Chairperson, Drabe Ismail, praised Arumadri's efforts in improving water coverage in the district.

Today Madi Okollo District council held a special council sitting in Offaka sub county to pay tribute to the late Hon. Adutia Nick Nathaniel, Secretary for Finance Planning and Administration and also the district Councilor for Offaka sub county. Late Hon. Adutia succumbed to heart complications and blood pressure on Tuesday.
The council eulogized him for being a visionary, committed and loving member of the council who united the Madi people.
The council resolved to continue with the lobbying that Hon. Adutia had started for revamping Okollo airstrip in order to foster tourism.
The CAO Madi Okollo Nawoya Bruno said that he lost a friend, an advisor and someone whom the district relied on to stabilize council. He mentioned that the late Hon. never used his position to intimidate staff.
Meanwhile the District Chairperson Drabe Ismail remembered the late Hon. for being an intelligent person who understood the challenges of the district and solved them. He mentioned that the late Honorable was a man of integrity who loved education.
The MP for Upper Madi Okollo Hon. Etuka Isaac said that Hon. Adutia died in Anyiribu sub county which lacks a health center three. He urged for the establishment of Anyiribu HCIII. He said the late Hon. Adutia was an educationist who moved from grade II to Master's degree.
However, Woman MP Hon. Joan Okie said that the late Hon. Adutia left behind a good name that the children should emulate. He was a jolly person who fought for the development of the entire district.
Hon. Adutia Nick Nathaniel was born in October 1955 and died on 2nd December 2024 at the age of 69. Hon. Adutia will be laid to rest on Saturday 7th December 2024 at Aiibu village Elibu Parish Offaka sub county Madi Okollo District.

*Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in Madi Okollo District starts on 2nd December.*
Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) will commence on 2nd December 2024 in Madi Okollo District. The spraying will be done for 21 days. This was revealed today 21st November by the Ministry of Health official during the District Sensitization of Leaders on IRS.
In the Sensitization meeting, the communities have been urged to smear their houses before spraying as smearing washes away the chemicals.
The stakeholders have been advised to sensitise the communities about the importance of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) and the myths surrounding IRS. The major Major objective of IRS is to reduce the population of mosquitos in the district.
This is the third time IRS has been implemented in the district which has led to reduction of Malaria burden in the district.
Madi Okollo District had high malaria burden at 78% before IRS which has dropped to 16% due to Indoor Residual Spraying.
