Nakawa Division Urban Council Speaker Rt. Hon Luyombya Godfrey is among the leaders led by National Unity Platform secretary General *Hon. David Lewis Rubongoya, Lord Mayor elect Salongo Engineer Balimwezo Ronald Nsubuga and supporters of the National Unity Platform who thronged the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Kanyanya, to accompany lawyers led by the Leader of Opposition in the Parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi . The legal team appeared before the judge to argue for the release on bail of National Unity Platform Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro , Comrade Kaija Doreen Ateenyi, Eddie Mutwe and others
However, the court session turned into a Zoom hearing, with people and media sent away. As if that was not enough, the bail application was also denied. This application was especially urgent for Waiswa Mufumbiro, to allow him to bury his wife.
The outcome of today takes us back to the pain of freedom fighters as captured by Nelson Mandela in his book Long Walk to Freedom. In the chapter Robben Island: The Dark Years, Nelson Mandela recounts how he was denied permission to attend the burial of his mother, and days later was also refused permission to bury his son, Madiba Thembekile “Thembi”, who died in an accident.
May Edith rest in eternal peace
