A standing ovation for my motherland and Country I love down to my smallest molecular being.
Uganda in the budget that was read a few days ago has exempted electric cars & hybrids from 0% import duty!.while I am so happy for everyone something is NOT right here as the hybrids should NOT have.been exempted.
Why they should not exempt hybrids cars is that while we all want to save we should also be mindful to understand that the country has to collect taxes so as to meet our budget needs.
Secondly there are so many hybrid cars almost every car comes in a hybrid model or specification, what if everyone for the next one year imports a hybrid or electric cars means there will be absolutely no income for the nation and the primary goal will NOT have been meet.
The single thing government should have focused on it to save on fuel import tax and say All electric cars not hybrids because hybrids do useless fossil fuels but with electric even if we don't allow a single fuel tanker to cross the border as long as Owen falls dams is turning all our cars will move.
Lastly while many people have got milage anxiety an electric car is probably better because it works the other way round it stats will 200kms and counts downwards till its next recharge and i strongly belive that an electric car is better than the normal fuel car because it has less moving parts no engine no gearbox no radiator etc hence believing that they should last longer only thing is the batteries get weaker and weaker after so many recharge cycles.
Downside to electric cars is tyre wear as they may occasionally have abbresive tyre wear than a normal car because the carry the weight of the battery all day as the same weather fully charged or not the weight remains the same well as the fossil fuel car when it's on E empty not Enough it is 100kgs lighter so less the wear truthfully its very negligible its not a.point of concern.
So yes kudos to government but exemption should have been given to ONLY electric cars to encourage ZERO use of fossil fuel an s class 400 hybrid is a super luxurious car and some huge suvs are going to come in for this reason alone while mine is one the way and I started importation of fully electric cars 2/3 years ago people have.not warmed up to the like when the automatic gearbox came it to a while but people that's where we are going in Britain everyman and his dog has an electric car so let's go!
Let's see after 1 year what numbers say as numbers don't lie.
