Letter from the Programs Manager

Dear Stakeholders,

As the Programs Manager of Pax Endeavor Foundation, Uganda, it is with great pride and gratitude that I present our annual report for 2024. This year, we have made significant strides in our mission to empower communities, particularly youth and adolescents, through sustainable development initiatives and capacity-building programs.

Key Achievements and Projects

1. Briquette-Making Initiative
The briquette-making project stands out as a hallmark of our success this year. Through this initiative, we addressed pressing environmental concerns by promoting eco-friendly alternatives to traditional fuel sources.

Support from KIFAD under the Safe and Inclusive Cities project:
We successfully acquired briquette-making machines with the generous support of KIFAD. These machines have empowered young people in the community, offering them sustainable livelihoods while fostering environmental conservation.

Community Engagement: The project has garnered widespread community involvement, with workshops conducted to train participants on briquette production and marketing strategies.

2. Grant Proposals and Partnerships
Recognizing the need for sustainable funding, we and submitting grant Proposals to renowned organizations, including TIKO AFRICA.

Progress with TIKO AFRICA: We are in ongoing discussions with TIKO AFRICA to secure support for adolescent-focused programs. This partnership, once f6inalized, will significantly p our ability to address critical iss ues affecting young people.

Capacity Building Collaborating with KIFAD, we organized leadership training programs aimed at equipping our team with the skills necessary to secure and manage large-scale projects effectively.

2024 Annual Report: Web and Social Media Assistant

I, Mubiru Joseph, Web and Social Media Assistant at Pax Endeavor Foundation Uganda, am pleased to submit this report highlighting my key activities, achievements, and impact throughout 2024.

Awareness Campaigns on GBV and Domestic Violence

Throughout the year, I spearheaded online awareness campaigns focusing on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), specifically domestic violence. GBV refers to violence that is directed at individuals or groups based on their gender, including acts that result in physical, sexual, or psychological harm or suffering. This violence can take many forms, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and child marriage.

Our campaigns aimed to educate and sensitize the public, particularly Facebook followers and non-followers, about the devastating effects of GBV and domestic violence on women and girls. We emphasized the importance of promoting gender equality, challenging harmful social norms, and providing support to survivors.

Some of these posts were shared on the Safe and Inclusive Cities project page, amplifying our message and reach.

Promoting Briquettes Making

In addition to GBV awareness, I actively promoted briquettes making, a key area of focus for Pax Endeavor Foundation Uganda. Briquettes are compressed blocks of combustible biomass materials, such as charcoal dust, sawdust, or agricultural waste.

The advantages of briquettes are numerous:

1. Renewable Energy Source: Briquettes are made from waste biomass materials, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and mitigating climate change.

2. Energy Efficiency:
Briquettes burn more efficiently than traditional charcoal, producing more heat while reducing smoke emissions.

3. Cost-Effective:
Briquettes are a cheaper alternative to charcoal, providing an affordable energy solution for low-income households.

4. Job Creation:
Briquettes making can create employment opportunities in rural areas, promoting economic empowerment.

Through regular social media posts, I highlighted the benefits of briquettes and encouraged our audience to adopt this sustainable energy solution.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my efforts as Web and Social Media Assistant have contributed significantly to raising awareness about GBV, domestic violence, and the importance of sustainable energy solutions like briquettes making. I am proud to have played a role in promoting Pax Endeavor Foundation Uganda's mission and values.

I look forward to continuing our online awareness campaigns and promoting the Foundation's initiatives in the coming year.

Thank you.

Today, we celebrated International Youth Day with the Youth Urban Refugee Run, themed "Solidarity with Refugees for a Smart City." This event underscored our commitment to building inclusive and innovative urban spaces that embrace all youth, including refugees.

The event was facilitated by the Safe and Inclusive Cities (SAIC) Project, led by Plan International through the Ngabo Youth Friendly Service Centre Nysc .*
The Kampala Advocacy Team, part of the SAIC Project, actively participated in this significant occasion. "Ngabo" is crucial in implementing Outcome One of the SAIC Project (influence), which focuses on advancing refugee inclusion and youth empowerment in urban settings.

Our participation reaffirms our dedication to advocating for policies and practices that support the integration and flourishing of refugees within smart and equitable cities. We are committed to a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to their community.

Using briquettes creates no smoke soot or carbon deposits. Depending on the base material, they produce no or little flyAsh.Further ,briquettes do not emit gases or any toxic chemicals like sulphur etc

Not only do briquettes have high potential to generate energy, but it also helps in reducing land, soil and air pollution. Moreover, this process of recycling biowaste and converting it into fuel is very economical and also has low maintenance cost

Domestic violence can be so easy for people to ignore, as it often happens without any witnesses and it is sometimes easier not to get involved. Yet, by publicly speaking out against domestic violence, together we can challenge attitudes towards violence in the home and show that domestic violence is a crime and not merely unacceptable.
