Uganda Export Promotion Board

“Our focus is on enhancing agricultural production in Northern Uganda to position it as a top food basket and export hub.

Through improved land utilization and infrastructure development, we are advancing local agriculture and expanding market opportunities,” said Irene Birungi Mugisha, CEO of the Presidential Forum, as she welcomed His Excellency, the President of Uganda.

A panel discussion covering key topics like commercial agriculture, industrialization, value chains, & cross-border trade. The Panel also explored how value addition can help lift people out of poverty & discussed biotech solutions for farming, transport, & logistics.
This was moderated by Mr John .B. Lwere, the Senior Trade Information Executive (Trade Information Division) at Uganda Export Promotion Board during the 5th Bi - Annual Private Sector CEO Retreat at Serena Hotel.

Today our team met up with the Members of the Uganda Tea Association to see how best we can market Uganda’s tea to the United Arab Emirates and the entire Gulf.

Ms Hasifa Tushabe the representative of the Exporters of Fruits and vegetables highlighting their challenges and possible solutions at the horticulture stakeholder’s meeting today.

“The customs at the Uganda Revenue Authority follows four core objectives: protection of society, facilitation of legitimate trade across borders, revenue collection, and data collection.
Arrangements are being put in place to ensure that every exporter needing assistance from Uganda Revenue Authority receives it as soon as possible , we are setting up an office specifically for that” - Mr Esunget Simon, Manager Customs at URA representing the Commission General.

“The Authority will continue to provide assistance to the exporters. Any bottlenecks faced , today will be addressed promptly, and we look forward to improvements” - Mr Deo Kyomya at the horticulture stakeholder’s meeting representing the Executive Director of Uganda Free zones Authority

“On behalf of UEPB and on behalf of the government allow me to thank the captains of horticulture for creating markets for households , creating jobs and earning Uganda foreign Forex.

We are here today to have away forward on how we can improve our products competitiveness on the world market together and we have decided to start with this value chain level for better focusing and creating clear interventions together.

We are working with different district local government offices to build the capacity of the private sector in marketing and business management and we are planning to Establish 5 regional offices.
We have 50 UEPB trainers of Trainees countrywide and we pledge to train more.

This Horticultural Exporters field visit to the cargo handling area at Entebbe International Airport aims to improve the quality of Uganda’s horticultural exports and enhance the competitiveness of Ugandan products in various international markets.

"The reason for inspection is to ensure that exporters meet the product standards and specifications required by the destination country," explained Charlse Mugabi, Agricultural Inspector at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, during the exporters' visit to the Inspection Area at DAS Handling.
