Blood donations save lives!

On May 28th Ambassador Matthias Schauer donated blood for the 21st time at the blood bank in Nakasero. Once again, he appreciated the high professionalism and friendliness of the staff.

“You walk in, are warmly welcomed, immediately taken care of, then get a drink and a cookie and 30 minutes later you walk out again. All my donations went very smoothly, I can only recommend a visit!”

🌍 Climate change is making disasters more frequent and more severe — and for Uganda, the question is no longer *if* disasters will happen, but how prepared the country will be when they do. ⚠️

Last week in Entebbe, Germany 🇩🇪 proudly supported the “Prepared for Recovery” Initiative, jointly organized by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), bringing together government, civil society, academia, development partners and the private sector. 🤝

From disaster-responsive public finance to stronger recovery governance and more resilient MSMEs, the discussions focused on one thing: ensuring Uganda can recover faster, protect livelihoods and build long-term resilience in the face of growing climate risks. 🌱🏗️

Building climate-resilient recovery systems is not only about responding to crises — it is about safeguarding communities, businesses and Uganda’s future. 🇺🇬

🎽 Jersey Day at German Embassy 🎽

Today our team proudly joined in on Jersey Day — wearing our favourite sport jerseys to celebrate the incredible sports clubs and the thousands of volunteers who keep them running! 💪

A special shoutout to all the small clubs out there — especially in Germany, where countless grassroots clubs are kept alive entirely by volunteers who show up week after week out of pure love for the sport. 🇩🇪❤️
Because behind every match, every training session, and every victory — there are people giving their time, energy, and heart. We are many. And that matters. 🙌

Happy Jersey Day to all sports lovers and volunteers across Uganda and beyond! 🇺🇬✨

Do you recognize any of the jerseys? 😁

🌍 Africa is shaping the future of global cooperation, so what comes next?
At the early celebration of Africa Day 2026 in Berlin 🇩🇪, one message stood out: partnership is not optional in today’s world 🤝.
As 🇩🇪 Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul put it:
“We choose cooperation over confrontation… a principle that is all the more essential.”
From strengthening global governance, to advancing shared priorities, African countries are playing a growing role in shaping international decisions, and Germany is committed to working side by side with its partners, including the African Union.
Cooperation only works when all voices are part of the conversation.

✨📚 What a Story to Remember – Toonda Book Festival 2026 📚✨

From 30th April to 3rd May, the Toonda Community Center near Fort Portal came alive with stories, creativity, and connection — and what an incredible journey it was! 💫

Across four inspiring days, participants of all ages shared, created, and celebrated the power of storytelling:
🔥 Stories told under the campfire
🎤 Powerful voices at the open mic
✍🏾 Engaging writing workshops
🎬 A magical movie night under the stars
💃 A vibrant closing show full of dance, theatre, and shared narratives

The festival truly became a space where stories crossed boundaries, voices were amplified, and community was strengthened. 🌍❤️

We are grateful to everyone who participated, contributed, and brought their energy to life — proving once again that stories have the power to connect, inspire, and empower.

It was our pleasure to organize this project together with Toonda Community Center.
Until next time, Toonda! ✨

🌳 Healthy forests mean secure water, stronger livelihoods, and greater resilience to climate change. That’s why restoring degraded landscapes across Uganda 🇺🇬 and all over the planet 🌍 is so important—now more than ever. 🌱

To support this effort, the Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Implementation Hub Project has been launched in Uganda, bringing together partners to scale up practical restoration solutions, strengthen collaboration, and empower communities to sustainably manage natural resources.

The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), working alongside the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and World Resources Institute (WRI), officially marked this milestone with a successful national launch.

The initiative is financed through the International Climate Initiative (IKI), supported by the 🇩🇪 German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), as part of a shared commitment to climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.

🎥 Watch highlights from the launch here:

By working together, Uganda continues to advance efforts to restore landscapes, protect ecosystems, and improve livelihoods for present and future generations. 🌿

🏍️ Driving Uganda’s E-Mobility Transition

Our recent journalist field trip also showcased the work of GOGO Electric, one of Uganda’s pioneers in electric mobility for the boda-boda sector.

Founded in 2017, GOGO Electric is introducing electric motorcycles and battery-swapping infrastructure tailored to local transport needs—helping riders reduce fuel and maintenance costs while lowering emissions.

In partnership with GIZ Uganda 🇩🇪🤝🇺🇬, efforts have focused on building the skills required for this emerging sector:
🔋 Training riders, technicians, and fleet managers
📚 Developing accredited curricula for EV repair, maintenance, and charging
💼 Creating jobs and strengthening links between training institutions and industry

Beyond mobility, these initiatives contribute to building a local value chain—from assembly and maintenance to battery systems—while supporting Uganda’s transition toward greener, more sustainable transport solutions.
