WE CANT ALL BE IN PARLIAMENT TO VOTE ON AGE LIMIT. FOR THOSE WHO WILL, WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU

BY MUBIRU MAHAD
History can be written in bits, it doesn't have to be written at once. Today our parliament might vote to remove the age limit that could have effectively ended president museveni's tenure in 2021. The main arguements posed by the proponents are fold; first that article 102 (b) is discriminatory , secondly we still need president museveni around for peace and tranquility and thirdly. whereas both arguements are reasonable, they aren't grounded in intellect and can thus far be out rightly rejected. to make inferences on the discriminatory nature of article 102 (b) is but to forget that world over there are some form of discrimination as regards to those who occupy the presidential seat, whether it's about religion of candidate, some age limit (lower boundary most commonly), able to read and write or some other restriction which one must overcome to stand as a president. ...wouldn't then an attempt to front discrimination necessarily create a need to remove all other restrictions on presidential qualifications. most importantly and infrequently cited is the fact that age limit and term limits are restrictions imposed not only to stream line governance but to create open, limited government. There has been often explanations comparative in nature to allude to lack of "limits" In developed countries despite the fact that those who have thought to offer this explanations have failed to offer "context". of what importance would comparison be without context. most countries without age limits (upper cap) atleast have term limits or have the institutional capacity to offer limits on presidency. those that lack one or more of the three are neither free nor cited as democracies. And for me context would also include alluding to our history -that is the checkered history that uganda has had.
placing limits on tenure of President is a source of stability

I salute you all our comrades. As you all understand the present political environment of Uganda at this time. the national resistance movement the ruling party is currently conducting its primaries at different political level, the opposition on the other side is not just sitting but its trying modify its skills through the democratic alliance (TDA). TDA is very hopeful that through combined forces they will be successful in ousting the NRM out of power.but the question is that who is going to be the chosen candidate to face NRM in the coming elections 2016.
in my opinion its better if the TDA brings up two candidates thats to say JPAM and KB because JPAM will be able to win the hearts of some in the NRM and yet KB has his diehard supports who cant vote JPAM in absence of KB. therefore to defeat the NRM or prevent it from getting 51% in the elections 2016, the TDA should front two candidates JPAM AND KB.
for God and my country
