Ahead of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) 2026, we hosted 45 Kenyan travel trade representatives for business-to-business engagements with Uganda’s tourism private sector.

The delegation included members of the Society of Kenya and the Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA). The meetings created opportunities for new partnerships, stronger business networks and closer collaboration between the two markets.

We’ll be showcasing Uganda’s diverse tourism experiences at MKTE 2026 from 6th–8th October at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, building on these connections and promoting the Pearl of Africa as a preferred destination.

Together with the East African Community (EAC), we have begun training the second cohort of EAC Hotel Assessors at the Hotel and Tourism Training College in Jinja.

Running until 4th Dec, the programme brings together 30 professionals across tourism, hospitality, architecture, public health, environmental management and other technical fields. Through classroom learning and practical field assessments, they will develop the skills to assess accommodation establishments against the EAC Classification Criteria.

By expanding our pool of qualified assessors, we are strengthening Uganda’s capacity for hotel grading, classification and compliance monitoring. This helps accommodation providers uphold recognised standards and gives visitors greater confidence in the safety and quality of their stay.

We’re celebrating a milestone for sports tourism as Uganda hosts the inaugural African Dragon Boat Racing competition on Lake Victoria in Kawuku, Wakiso District.

The three-day event brings together teams from Uganda, Egypt, Kenya and South Africa, alongside special guests from Singapore and Hong Kong, as part of celebrations marking 70 years of China-Africa people-to-people friendship.

“You cannot separate sports from tourism,” noted Alhaji Faruk Kirunda in remarks delivered on his behalf by Mr Jimmy Nambiro at the opening yesterday. He highlighted the competition’s potential to strengthen international friendships, attract visitors and create opportunities for investment.

For us, this is an opportunity to showcase Lake Victoria’s potential for water-based tourism and encourage visiting teams and supporters to discover more of Uganda.

Over the last two days, we exhibited at the 15th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference & Expo 2026 at Speke Resort Munyonyo, showcasing Uganda’s tourism experiences to investors, industry leaders and policymakers.

Our participation highlighted Uganda’s appeal as a destination for meetings, conferences and exhibitions, while encouraging delegates to extend their stay and explore our landscapes, cultures and adventures.

With Sipi Falls among the highlights of the Eastern Uganda Mining Excursion on 1–3 October, delegates have an opportunity to experience Eastern Uganda beyond the conference.

We held an insightful meeting with the Import Promotion Desk (IPD), a German initiative that connects European importers with pre-screened producers and service providers in developing and emerging markets.

The fact-finding mission explored potential areas of collaboration, including market access, capacity building for the board and selected private-sector tourism stakeholders.

This partnership presents an opportunity to strengthen Uganda’s positioning in the European market and support our efforts to grow international tourist arrivals.

From 1st to 4th October 2026, Uganda will host the inaugural Africa Dragon Boat Cup, welcoming 119 participants from Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Italy, Germany and Uganda.

We are proud to collaborate with the Uganda Dragon Boat Federation to bring this continental competition to Uganda and spotlight Lake Victoria’s potential for marine sports, tourism and adventure.

The experience has already begun, with visiting participants receiving a vibrant cultural welcome upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport.
