This morning, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) led by the Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, introduced the 9-member Board of the National Mining Company, established under the Mining and Minerals Act of 2022. The Board is tasked with overseeing the company’s performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and making strategic decisions that align with Uganda's national interests.
The Board members include;
1. Mr. James Mukasa Ssebugenyi – Chairperson
2. Mr. James Byagaba – Vice Chairperson
3. Ms. Kevin Aanyu – Member
4. Ms. Agnes Alaba – Member
5. Dr. Alex Kwatampora Binego Zentaro – Member
6. Hon. Maria Kiwanuka Nabasirye Kiwana – Member
7. Mr. Francis Twinamatsiko – Member

Oil & Gas Sector Quote
The Ministry of Energy & Mineral Development is conducting preliminary petroleum exploration studies in the Moroto-Kadam Basin to assess its oil and gas potential. Similar surveys have started in the Kyoga Basin, with plans to initiate studies in the Hoima Basin soon. Early results suggest the potential for commercial oil and gas in the Moroto-Kadam Basin," Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, the Minister of Energy & Mineral Development said on Aug.21 at a news conference.
